Forgot my sky hight is only 15. >.> does DF Hack have a tool to raise the roof?

Dude use advanced worldgen.  Sky is 100!  Or better yet, dig it all out of solid stone, set the world depth to "100 above first layer" so that there's 100+ layers of stone above the first cavern.

You'd probably be better off with no caverns or only one cavern.  Turn off HFS and possibly even magma layer, too, and you can pretty much just run with 100 floors of stone leading to an edge of the map with nothing but a floor below it.  (It's turtles all the way down...)

It depends on how serious you want your fort to be, of course.

Anyway, at that resolution, it might be impossible to actually run your fortress, as workshops require 3x3 spaces, and you will be building an object where every 3x3 space in the cube will have at least one hole in it.

If you finish at that picture, then you'd have 27 total sub-cubes on a side.  If you made that 3x3 for each sub-cube, you'd get 81x81x81, but that would leave you with a 1 tile area in each cube and only a handful of the "inside edge" cubes could overlap and have empty spaces big enough to build a workshop inside.  If you went 5x5 each, you'd hit a size of 135x135x135, which would be a bit less than 3x3 embark size.  Although it would require digging, as the sky only goes up to 100, so at the most you'd need to dig out 35 layers of stone.

I'm only mad because I was almost done with the 1st layer. I'm cheating to make up time. (speed:0)

As for where to put stuff, the fractal is only the framework. I reserve the right to add floors where I need them. I plan to make a hanging dining hall over magma in the big center pit, and the workshops can be similar hanging platforms. There will always be at least 1 square around the platform so my workers can dodge/suicide off the edge into magma/water whenever they like.

I think it would be interesting to build a fortress like a nautilus shell. Nothing quite like getting a math fix while getting a biology fix.

I think I'm going to do a Green Glass Menger Sponge. Made from all green glass. Maybe I can fit a volcano in the middle? Anyone have an embark with a perfectly Square volcano? If not, I'll just have to pump it from the magma sea  :-[

That would actually be pretty awesome. Borg Fortress.

Well... how about a simple pennate freestanding structure that's fractal?

I drew one example. This particular one would be interesting because it would be one where ramps are more natural than stairs.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.
