I have jsut recieved another 20 migrants in my fortress and I have full furnace operations, full workshops in full speed, and more random crap then I can handle... I have also conscripted about 15 more units to my existing 5 (yes 5 soldiers) and I have also a captain of the gaurd, a baron, a dragon, and A LOT of prisoners (my animal stockpile is FULL of prisoners) and I have a massive amount of traps around my fortress and I ALMOST domesticated wolverines and giant wild boars (I am curentyl experimenting crundles right now) I also have made a wall of traps leading to the only way up the mountain, so anything comming DOWN from it, is trapped, and stragglers would be killed. I have also taken down two sieges, hence the amount of soldiers captured. I forgot to mention I HAVE NOT YET found candy, but I found a giant pit and two DEEP AS HELL magma pools (not literally).

My big question: what now?

You have all that? Hmm.

- moar soldiers! (I usually have 40 or so in a mature fort.) If you are feeling brutal have them prove themselves against your prisoners; those that live, get to be in the army. Otherwise just draft them into groups of two and have them train up most of the time, that'll take them off your hands.

- along similar lines, draft recreational wrestling squads. They won't be good soldiers (unless you equip them with something real, later), but you won't have to worry about them being idlers.

- projects! Make a city of the dead. A second fortress underground. Temples. A children's area so they don't wander off and get killed (or a children's area where they'll get killed :P )Arenas to kill your prisoners in. Horrible magma traps to dump your prisoners into. Or waterworks. Think multiple z-levels. I have a fort that's just about as long-lived as yours is, I think (destroyed 2 sieges) and I still haven't totally finished carving out the main living space or even breached the caverns.

- give all your dwarves nice chests or cabinets. Start rewarding the ones you like.

Many things to do! That's just what I could think of offhand.

Set 5 craftsdwarves with "make stone toys/instruments/crafts" to repeat. Also make a stone stockpile next to the craftsdwarf shop that only holds useless stone. Your craftsdwarves will easily pump out enough stone crafts to keep 30-50 dwarves busy hauling the stone in and the crafts out. If you really wanted to be cruel you could have them make mugs, as each make mug job produces 3 mugs. As a side effect it gets rid of all of the excess stone you have.

Note that you might want to expand your military at the same time as well, since all of that extra wealth will bring quite a bit of attention to your fortress.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

build some giant multi-z-level open rooms for dining halls, arenas, or mausoleums.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

A mausoleum is where you put dead people.

If you want to get rid of excess stone most effectively, go with instruments and toys - they only make 1 per job, which means your finished goods stockpiles won't fill up as quickly.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Set your good masons to burrows, and all the idlers to masonry and have them build a giant above ground castle

It hasn't been mentioned, but you could perform some game testing whether it be tests with combat, improving FPS, or whatever you feel needs more attention/information.

Megaprojects and maybe next time start with some fortress defense civs to spice up the experience.

I'm quite bad with idlers. I usually just keep about 20-30 all the time who are 'specialist' haulers, who will always keep my workshops working at 100% (v. stockpile dependent) and can quickly respond to cleaning up goblin invasions.

how big is your fort? 40 idlers out of 80, yes, that's a problem, but 40 out of 200 isn't too bad. It means you'll have plenty of cannon fodder and hauling in case of sieges or interesting FB.

Giant wooden phallus pointed at the nearest elven retreat. Bonus points if you pump water or magma out of the top.
