Curious Stockpile Problem
« on: April 10, 2012, 06:22:52 pm »

So, I've run out of stockpile space. I immediately take a room I carved out following a silver vein and place a custom stockpile for "Furniture/Siege Ammo", "Ammo", "Bars/Blocks", "Gems", "Finished Goods", "Leather", "Cloth", "Wood", "Weapons/Trap Components", "Armor", and I made sure to disallow "Plant/Animals" in the Additional Information.

The problem is that, for some reason, when I move to dump some things, like a random pile of vermin remains that has accumulated, or the dead yak corpse that died of starvation, my dwarves immediately take it to a single space in my new stockpile with the directive "Dump Item".

Could it have something to do with my orders? What should they be? Dwarves gather refuse? Dwarves ignore refuse?

I have "Dwarves Dump Others", and it seemed to work - they got rid of all the vermin remains IN my base...

But the ones up top...

Should I turn off Dwarves Gather Refuse From Outside? I mean, I guess... but that doesn't change the fact that they're still bringing trash to my stockpile...

Is there an activity zone (i) with (g)arbage dump defned?

Dump item sends items to a dump, not refuse.

Vermin Corpses are Refuse, but if you're (D)umping them, then you must have a garbage dump activity zone (from the 'i' menu)

There should be another option for ignore vermin remains. Toggle this off.

I do have a dump site. It's roughly 12 spaces from the place they're taking corpses from.

Zombie Urist: But that doesn't change the fact that they're dragging the Yak corpse to the new stockpile.

My High Master Fish Dissector (When did I get one of these...?) is dragging a skeletal goblin thief into my stockpile under the directive Dump Item.

Watch where he deposits it.  Go into the i menu, and see if there is a garbage dump.

I'd bet a slade scepter that there is.

I just went through the entire stockpile canceling any zone designations in the stockpile room. The fish dissector is still toting the goblin the-- I was going to wait to see if he question mark'd and turned around, but I looked ahead and two more dwarves had just thrown two warthog corpses in the pile.

Goblin corpse has just been delivered.

I've removed stockpile designation from the place they seem to be taking corpses to.

Now it just remains to be seen...

Problem solved. - Edit.

It's just that single point in the stockpile. Corpses are going to the dump, as per normal.

you don't have to set refuse to be dumped, it will be taken to a refuse stockpile automatically if there is a refuse stockpile that will accept it

items marked to be dumped will be taken to a garbage zone, left there and forbidden. You need to reclaim them (d) (b) (c).

from what I see you're mixing up refuse stock[ile and garbage zone.

Refuse is pretty much automated, but maybe some things you want to get away, destroy or whatever and mark them to be dumped at the garbage.

Refuse is leftovers, garbage is don't touch

Vermin remains are refuse, and so are bones. I want one of those things.

The stockpile I references disallowed refuse, and had no dump designation in it.

Yet they were using it as a dump.

Now my squad of hunters refuses to hunt. They have ammo, and they've hunted before. But now they simply refuse to leave the house. Other civilians don't seem to mind, and, in fact, even continue outdoor business. But my hunters... my brave elephant killers... refuse.

Sigh.

Any ideas as to why?

That causes them to collect remains from outside.

... Magical. Now I have a couple people hunting again, but now they refuse to use the stockpile as a stockpile, or as anything at all.

I hate my Dwarves.
