Asbestos Mayor?
« on: April 10, 2012, 02:32:34 pm »

I was just minding my own business, flooding a fort I'd grown bored of with magma, but two dwarves and a cat refused to die.

They're on fire, but have no wounds.

Even standing knee-deep in the magma!

I am at a loss for words.

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?
Cave adaption.

Did you turn off temperature calculations in the d_init file at some point and neglect to turn it on?

Well, the other 102 of them burned up just fine. I checked anyways, and it's definitely quite on.

Currently, dwarfs "burn" by their fat melting, causing massive bleeding. If the major had little or now fat, the little damage it did would have healed on it's own. Congratulations, you have a magma-proof mayor.

Why doesn't anyone just abandon and welcome the old inhabitants to the new fort. After all, what else to train a legendary weaponsmith for if not to use him in several forts.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Shits and giggles. It's fun to watch the little dudes die.

!!IDEA!!
keep reclaiming the fort and committing magma genocide untill your only left with magma-proof dwarves, then abandon.
Repeat untill you reach a point that most migrants are from your previous forts.
=>Magma safe dwarven army!

Battle going badly? Goblin lashers closing in? Dump magma on everyone! (and they might even live!)

the steel armor survives, the steel weapons, the wariors too, but their clothing doesn't. Military starts tantrum!

Clearly then, these magma-proof soldiers need to be clad in candy armour AND clothes. Yes the clothes will rot over time just like mundane fabrics. But while it lasts you will have magma-proof dwarves with magma-proof clothes and equipment, wading through magma to rack up kill counts on bleeding, roasting targets!

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

Must... Resist... Temptation... To... Do...

ye gods, that would be a threetoe story, or just any writer. The wariors in shining blue armor, striding through knee deep lava to reach their victims, unbothered by the heat.... It's the stuff of legends.

That truely would be an epic. And also a testimant to how far bay12'ers are willing to go to find and exploit every bug and quirk, in the name of !!SCIENCE!!.

It would take A LOT of time and effort but I'm sure would go down in bay12 history. If anyone dose actually try this, it would probably be the sort of thing their looking for here:

Webber clown silk is softer, doesn't chafe as much, doesn't make you look like dr. Evil, and is renewable.

It is also dwarfier.

Tested in arena mode by walking dwarves into 1/7 magma:

normal unclothed = catch on fire, bleed to death
normal, wearing heat-resistant armor = still catch on fire, bleed to death
fatless, unclothed = catch on fire, bleed to death
fatless, wearing heat-resistant armor = catch on fire, bleed to death

Time from reading thread until results: under 10 minutes

Yeah, I was highly skeptical that ultra-lean dwarves were immune to magma.

So the question remains: what's keeping that mayor and cat alive?
