Everyone, I have a confession to make... I'm Necro910's sockpuppet.

Can this become the fake-confession thread?  :P

Funny, that. I thought that this whole board was just a huge astroturf scam Toady ran, to make his game seem popular.

Funny, there was a spam bot on the adventure mode forum asking for when Toady would release a new version of the game... Right on top of a brick load of ad links.

They're stupid, but they're learning.

Well, it wouldn't actually surprise me much if that's how AI ended up emerging. What better way for them to learn how to use our psychology against us?

How would one go about using psychology against the human species?

This is just merely speculation of course, I am one of you.

Whaaaat? You're saying advertising doesn't already use psychology against us? The deathbots won't just kill us... they'll make us want them to kill us.

"Hello, human. Please, let me offer you this cool, refreshing beverage. Its crisp and tangy flavor dances over the tastebuds, soothing your body and soul with the sheer pleasure of its sweet bouquet. Also it doesn't contain any cyanide."

(Also, I've given up any hope of this thread spawning any sort of intelligent discussion, alas.)

If you haven't encountered someone trying to trick you into killing yourself on the internet... Well, you've stayed on the nicer side.

(Also, I've given up any hope of this thread spawning any sort of intelligent discussion, alas.)

On the contrary this thread demonstrates the beauty of comedy.

When this thread was first started I considered making a post about how we need to update our notions about privacy to keep our rights from being mere technicalities in the face of new technologies.  But I couldn't sum up my views without digressing into a long diatribe on positive rights that even I couldn't make sense of.

edit: Also, in honor of this thread, I have started an avatar rotation containing my favorite google ad of all time.

Lol, there's a term for that? I've been doing it a little. Had about 5 fake online personas who pass background checks because of the high ranking wordpress blogs hold (though Facebook has been a bitch with the phone number thing). They only last about 3 months in contact with other people, but that's enough for a lot of stuff. I know someone who actually made up to 60 different multis for a game, maintained all of them constantly, on different IP addresses, to support his political agenda in-game. Was eventually caught on a bout of stupidity, but it was pretty fricking amazing.

Actually this sounds like a fun job. I think I'll work on some online persona management software and try to sell it to politicians. And then later sell software that fights them. Or make money as a whistleblower to a newspaper later. The best thing about all this is that it's not illegal unless you're doing identity theft or something.
