Weirdest Deaths
« on: April 09, 2012, 03:48:40 pm »

Until today (or maybe tomorrow--but more on that later), the weirdest death any of my characters had was when my kobold adventurer got frozen in a river. However, as we speak I type, another character is going through his second or third day of being nibbled to death by dingoes. He's constantly passing out from exhaustion, so I only get one attack every half-hour to hour or so. Real-world half/hour, that is. I'm catching up on my forum reading, though. I think he'll die of thirst.

What's your weirdest death?

Ping Pong between two very large creatures.
I forget what they were, but they kept beating me back and forth between them until a lucky headshot...
There might have been cliffs involved.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

I dont know if this is what you mean. But i was adventuring through a dungeon recently and it was one of those rooms with a one tile wide scaffold above an open hole into a bigger room below. Anyway a pikeman below somehow managed to cause my adventure to dodge to his death. I thought it was impossible for creatures to attack another creature with melee upwards on a non-stair/ramp tile.

If adamantine is perfectly rigid, as shown by having 0 strain at fracture in the raw files, then the speed of sound in the metal approaches the speed of light. Adamantine musical instruments would produce ultrasonic vibrations, and cut off the fingers of the musician.

Unfortunately for players it's perfectly acceptable for the AI to stab the guy above/below them.

My wierdest death was getting my minotaur adventurer eaten alive by a groundhog on her very first trip out into the wilds. One nibble in the wrong spot and she passed out from pain and remained in a state of uselessness for almost a full 24 hours.

Why unfortunate? If anything it's unfortunate for the bandits who encounter death from above. Also it stops terrible pathing issues and flying creatures from becoming invincible :d

Weirdest death? Accidentally attacking a room full of three of my retired legendary wrestler adventurers.

All of my bones were broken, then broken some more... Then some more...

Dodging down into a river and getting pulled down a waterfall. Landing on a sturgeon which wounded my adventurer so much he bled to death. First time I fell down a waterfall and got injured by a sturgeon both happening at the same time the same time. The zombies I fought up the hill didnt even touch my adventurer.

While experimenting with interactions, I modded in an adventurer with the power to turn enemies into cavies.  While testing it out, I came across a large and quite hostile bandit camp.  I used the power on the entire camp, expecting an easy victory.  While being turned into cavies made the bandits drop their weapons and armor, it didn't make them any less hostile, and my adventurer was mobbed, knocked off a hillside, stunned, and nibbled to death.

Update on the adventurer being nibbled to death by dingoes: He is now, after at least three and possibly four or five in-game days, at what I presume to be the nax level of thirst; all limbs are disabled, so he can only bite; and the corpses of several dingoes he fought before getting exhausted are rotting. He's going down soon, although since he hasn't died of thirst yet he might die due to lying down next to rotting dingo corpses, with some presumably-mouldering meat in his pack (I failed to check, but it seems probable). I'm amazed the dingoes haven't decided to go gnaw on some animal that they have a chance of killing before the heat death of my laptop.

Pecked to death by thousands of pissed off guinea hens, I had killed this guard that had for some reason just snapped and started murdering people left and right for no reason and suddenly everyone in the entire city was out to kill me. Not one small animal or other creature wasn't chasing me (atleast thats how it felt, probably had far more to do with the fact I was running through buildings to escape the horde), eventually some lucky jerk managed to cut my left lower leg off and I fell down which allowed the swarm of annimals (mostly dogs and guinea hens) that where following me to catch up and start ripping pieces off of me. First the dogs just bit me a lot and managed to completely destroy the other leg and tear open a few arteries but what I found best about it was that there where probably something like fifty guinea hens pecking at my arms and head, eventually the ones pecking at my arms just stabbed me enough times that those where inoperable and I was reduced to just biting my way through the hundreds of birds swarming me. It finally ended when an especially strong bird managed to peck hard enough to shatter my skull and pierce the brain.

I came across a river that I wanted to cross and it would have taken much longer to go around even on fast travel than simply swimming it. But it was moving too fast, so I waited until night when it froze over. It was only a 1 block drop to the top of the ice, yet my guy managed to slip, fall and smash his head open on the ice and die.
