Finding things

I'm having a lot of trouble navigating in my adventure mode. What kind of place should I look for and how do I get there?

Ask for a quest in the capital, go to the place given.
Or, you could explore the wilderness as I do, and kill all animals...... or get killed ofcourse.

I just started playing adventure mode myself, so I'm no expert... but I find that talking to every villager you can and asking about the capital, the surroundings and their family helps fill in the local map. They'll mention important lairs and things that you can eventually explore.

I don't go for the lairs or on quests at first. I concentrate on finding areas with wildlife to practice on and stock up on meat. My luck with quests hasn't been good; they seem to be too tough for even a starting demigod and two companions. The first quest I was ever given was a tower with three necromancers; I actually killed the necromancers, but was eventually done in anyways.

So now, I'm focusing on hunting before questing, as I said. Figure out safe routes to and from lair locations without engaging the inhabitants. Do some limited trade of meat, try to secure some armor, wrestle with bunnies, practice sneaking.

Hello!

talysman's advice is good. First, talk to the villagers. Note that their text about the capital and the surroundings are not sorted, so you get repetitions even before you have heard everything they have to say. Also ask them about service (= quests), so that you know where you don't want to go. The quests are always sorted by distance and there are no repetitions. Note, however, that you initially only get quests to kill vampires, werebeasts, bandits, and similar. Dragons and other big guys are not given as quests, so a lair that has no quest mentioned may actually be more dangeours than you care for.

Once you have informed yourself about your surroundings, press 'Q' to see the overview map of your location. Personally, I suggest that you initially try to get to a human town ('+', '*', or '#' - all in light gray on black) of your civilization (I assume you are playing human), because you can sell the bones, skins etc. of animals you hunt there and at the same time buy armor or whatever else your equipment may be lacking. Towns (and hamlets) usually also have a source of drinking water (a river, brook, or a well) and you need to find shelter at night, so they are good bases for operations.

So as not to get into trouble, you should initially avoid filled in circles (=lairs/caves), '#' in black on gray, or anything purple. In the left upper corner, you have a "radar" pointing out the directions of the closest important places, so you can use that to navigate.

Before starting to move, you can also press 'T' to see the surrounding area a bit closer. This is travel mode, and you should leave it via '>' before you start moving. I suggest that you stay away from purple/dark grey areas, as they are evil biomes and contain a lot of dangers.

I hope these hints are kind of understandable.

Yours,

practice fighting against lycanthropes (were-creatures) they are almost always in human form, they live in caves, and are fairly easy to kill. the worst injury you can get are things like bruises. sometimes they do get in a lucky shot and manage to kill you though.

Dont walk into evil biomes. If the zombies doesnt get you, its the rain or the mist. A quick and sure way to end your adventurer.

Ha ha, I love evil biomes, keeps you on your feet dodging the dangers. You literally end up alone, surrounded by the undead getting closer and closer, backed against a waterfall...

You learn how to survive, quite well. Syndromes can't get you in water, zombies can. Zombies are best dealt with strategical dismemberment, aim away from the arms e.t.c.

In which case you wouldn't choose to go near the rivers, and seek shelter in the caverns/find a murky pool to recuperate in :P
