Anyone still playing this? Started in LostEconomy and Capitalism Online but they seem quite dead. In case they are, any other similar games?

This one's pretty dead, too, from a development standpoint. We'll eventually find a replacement.

I'm working on it :) But it's very early and not at all playable yet...

The old PHP code is utter crap but I'm slowly teasing it apart and pulling out the formulas and data models and such. It kinda sucks that he didn't include the base "data set" for all the stuff like the product list, what factories produce what products, what stores sell what products, what are the inputs/outputs for the different factory jobs, etc. That's basically the core "rule set" of the game and I've had to spend a bunch of cycles writing web scrapers to harvest that data from the existing game site.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Damn, I wanted to go back to it, we had fun time crashing the energy/water with bay12, but it's dead now. Is there any replacement out there or is everything under work ?

A Noob bumping an old thread!

Not sure how many of you still jump back to EoS from time to time and play or if your an active player.  Like many of you, I enjoyed playing the game and still do.  Although  the main server has been getting really bad lately.

Yes, I tried losteconomy when another programmer tried to move it over to his server.  Eventually giving up and saying most of the code was not fixable.  I found most of the busted up code from github as a few of you did.  I've been working on this project for quite a few months,  I found quite a bit of the code needed restructured and some needed re-written completely.

But I feel that I have something presentable to you hear now.

I ran across this thread when I was looking for members that used to play and enjoyed it.  150 some pages of talks about EoS alone is what grabbed my attention, some enthusiastic players that enjoyed the game as I did and see the potential in it.  So what I am hoping from you is that you'd still be willing to give an old game a go on a new server.

I extend an invitation to you to join my EoS server

My expectations from you.  Exploit what you can, find errors where you will and report them to me.  I already know of very many still  :D but having fresh eyes on it is always better.  Most of all, just let me know what you think, and what other things we could add and create.

Thank you for your time and letting me dust of an old Thread.

LoSboccacc,  I'm not quite sure that I follow you?  I can look at it if you feel their is an error in the script concerning the quality?  I did make some changes to it,  but you'll have to tell me if the problem still exists.

ok am in and playing, there are no foreign suppliers like in economy of scale, so at least the issue with the b2b market injecting infinite goods is not there.

the issue with quality is that it has a runaway effect on both sales and earnings, it's not a bug but something broken as a mechanic since the original game.

Oh yes, I found a variable in the script that you could sell your goods at 100 times the market value.  Plus even more if your quality was higher.

To answer this question, Yes I scaled that way back, which should really put limits on people selling water at 7.00 each.  lol.

A problem with the original game was the quest system.  If you do the quests long enough, eventually you end up with companies worth over the maximum amount (which was in the quadrillions). So everyone who plays long enough ends up with a net worth in the quadrillions.  It was because prestige adds to net worth, and the quests add more and more prestige the more you do them.

Yes, Quests are disabled on the BetterMember server for right now.  I had most of them working, but I quickly noticed the problem and removed some of the variables in the quarterly scripts that figure the networths.

I agree, the Quest system was one of the big problems with it.  I will do a re-write or maybe even a redirect on that sometime in the future.
