I tried Economies of Scale after the update a few months ago and managed to corner the market on three types of gelatin and the market on tortilla chips for about a week before one or two megacorporations took away all of my profits. I might give this game a try again soon if I'm feeling masochistic however so I was wondering what advice you guys might have to offer.

Don't focus on demand met alone but also market size when choosing your production target.

Do you have any other advice to offer on Economies of Scale?

I just started playing it today but already a little confused. The more things I put on the shelves of my store, the less my total projected income is. Like for example if I had just one item on the shelves, and the projected income for it was 1,000 then if I put a second item then they become 700 for the first, and 200 for the second, which is 900 in total, less than what it was for just the one item.
What's the deal with that?

The idea is that the fewer things you have in your store the more people will buy of what you have on the shelves, think random visitors picking something up.  The other thing is though the more full your shelves are of different items the more people will visit your store and the more efficient it will be.

But what's the point of efficiency if it's less sales and therefore less profit?

For one thing, more items selling means the store is less affected if a single item's demand tanks.

It's more likely that the second item you're selling is far less popular so it's not generating the same revenue as you would make from selling twice as much of the first item.
Basically the first item will be selling at 65% efficiency (i think) times 8 shelves, but when you add a second item both will sell at 70% efficiency times only 4 shelves each. Try lowering the price of the second item drastically.

So, I started up this game again and opened a new company. I started trying to muscle in on the rubber market but competition is incredibly fierce. Even selling it at a loss I'm still only having 0.14% market share. It wasn't this difficult before D: I had a huge amount of the lime concentrate market before whatever update made all past companies auto-shutdown.

The quality adjusted demand is now relative to the average world quality - your rubber is fighting against a 89q market so until you get into 70ish territory don't expect to make huge sales, even if the market demand is only satisfied at 13%

btw.

this game lacks a way of 'losing', to get your monopolistic lunch get eaten by small but focused start ups.
