The person supporting regenerating health, when asked why you can see when shot in the eye justified it as 'you put on an eyepatch'. When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

Anyone here have experience with lawsuits? I just got this:
Quote
Revanchism Mc. K. III, ESQ.
GSLF - Attorneys-at-Law

Greetings, Mr. Denoron.

As this is an informal exchange, I would first like to express my deep regret for any hurt Mr. Hill, hereafter known as "Client", has done to you, or your most prestigious company. On this note, I would like to remind you that any damages sought by Denoron Retail agaisnt my client will have to be argued in a fair, and honest trial. Which, of course, means that you are not to contact my client at any time until after the verdict has been decided upon by a sanctioned judge.

Now then, to business: It is my understanding that my client took the position of "Store Manager" in Donoran Retail's flagship store, correct? This position entitled my client to stock and control the store under his authority as he saw fit. It is also my understanding that you fired my client cause, correct? My client has informed me that you spoke to him on matter such as: "Stocking the wrong items", "Not stocking correctly". I am struggling, personally, to see what cause you had to terminate the legal contract between Denoron Retail and my client, which will be discussed at a later date.

On the matter of the lawsuit against my client: It is my understanding that you knowingly hired my client, without coercion or blackmail, and that he provided all required information truthfully to you. I would like to ask you, then: Why would you hire my client in good faith, and then fire him, without reason? Even further, why would you let him work, in good faith, for the betterment of Denoron Retail before firing him, without pay?

I have to say, Mr. Denoron, that the case is not looking very strong for Denoron Retail. Heretofore, I, on behalf of my client, formally request that the case against my client be dropped. In return, we offer to drop the lawsuit of unlawful termination in return for $5,000,000 USD, payable in $100,000 USD increments. I would advise that you take the offer, Mr. Denoron.

Sincerely,
Revanchism Mc. K. III, ESQ.
Obviously, I'm not taking the deal. But I could use a lawyer.

I'd probably just say that either he broke an implied contract (if you gave him any direction), or that he showed gross incompetence or malice (if he did).

If you hired someone and they played like a newbie, then you did fire them without a day's pay, then they probably have a good 'case'.  It's your job to check credentials and experience, after all...and it sounds like they did spend time, performed work, on your behalf.

Talk the guy down to a smaller number, maybe.

He has over 8 billion dollars. He doesn't count as newbie any more. Eh, the lawyers gonna post the case probably so we'll see.

If you're going to fire someone after they performed work for you, you still owe them money.  Just like in the real world surprisingly enough.

Is Econosia an at will state? If yes, then you may fire at anytime for any reason. If no then you may not fire at anytime for any reason. I would argue that considering the mechanics in place to fire at anytime, without any provided reason, it is indication that we are dealing with at will employment. The employment contracts are NOT for specified time periods and the functions are NOT implemented to negotiate contracts. Therefore you need not provide reason or justification for firing him. You also need not pay him since the contract, in its limited capacity, called for automated payment and that automated payment is of no concern to you. If he failed to perform his job function and never succeeded to do his duty prior to the pay cycle that is his problem, not yours. Just as if he had quit prior to the automated pay cycle; you would have no obligation to pay someone that quit.

The pay cycle is an implied contract.  For every day of work, payment.  If you hire a guy to mow your lawn and say you'll pay him twenty bucks when he's done, then you change your mind halfway through, he has a reasonable expectation of payment even if "when he's done" didn't happen.

If you hire a guy to mow your lawn, and he sits around drinking beer all day, you have no expectation to pay him.
That said, I strongly agree, the pay cycle is an implied contract. Therefore it is implied you are paid at the cycle, not before, not after. So to not be employed at time of the cycle is reason enough not to get paid.Just because a guy hires you two minutes after the paid time does not give you any right to payment... so just as you are fired for poor work prior tot he pay time, you have no expectation of pay. The system does not support partial payment for partial time worked, if it did then yes, he'd have an obligation to pay for time worked, but it doesn't so he has no responsibility.

Actually, as I understand it, Scelly had the intent to send partial payment through some clever b2b purchases but was spending the time trying to figure out how to NOT get flagged as money laundering, but since he is a great guy he was willing to take that risk in order to get whatever just payment may have been due. It is not his fault that the system does not allow for that functionality, and that he had to spend his own time and resources trying to set the exchange up. it is also not his fault that the guy decided to jump the gun and extort him.

Eh, I wouldn't call it extortion.

Bring it to arbitration and see what happens, including any correspondence about whether you were going to send money manually.

It was in his best interest to NOT send correspondence to that degree, else the system would have evidence against him for criminal activity.

In my opinion, his case won't hold. Imagine you get a job in a retail shop and on your first day you keep breaking things, being rude to people and not doing your job properly. If i was the store manager i'd fire you before the day ends. Now maybe in the real world, in some countries, i'd still have to pay you for the hours worked, but this is not the real world, and it's not a "country" with such laws (if there's such a law written somewhere on the website/forum, show it to me). Also even if you wanted to take his deal and pay him 5M, you wouldnt be able to, since the only option (B2B one-way deal) is considered money laundering, and flagged by the system.

In fact, HE is breaking the law if he's trying to coerce you into unlawful deals.

Yep, he is extorting him. plain and simple. If anything: counter-sue. legal representation is not cheap and cases like this can lower reputation which can have a negative effect on business operations.
