It is hard to keep working on a game unless you're really passionate about it without getting revenue from it.

Soooooo....

I've been taking a look at the improvements that the dev released a few days ago. Some interesting stuff and the addition of a B2B request system is nice. The import/export markets are "gone" now and replaced with NPC companies that post buy/sell requests on the B2B. Instead of allowing unlimited quantity of exports, they now have a dynamic supply/demand and a finite quantity to buy/sell which gets adjusted every 15 minutes (along with the price).

Some guy on the forum is crying foul that his company that pre-update exported 6 trillion (!) units of Halite a day now can't get rid of all the product he's making. LOL

I also found some derpy-ness with the import/export pricing. It looks like the bounds here are a little out of whack so you have the import companies selling for less than the export ones buy for. Arbitrage opportunities are there (see screencap in the spoiler tags) but the quantity is so low (usually a single unit), it's not a huge money maker.

Nice to see some improvements. Is it still viable to import a shitload of crap and sell it in the stores at double the buying price for maximum profit? If no, I might even get back to the game.

Also, holy shit, it's been almost a year since I played this. o_0

Potentially viable but if any other players are actually producing those in house, they'll eat your lunch as far as sales. The import prices are a little more realistic now but I think that's due to the low number of players (50 on EoS, 80 on CapOnline) and the "adjust qty and price down if no one buys" logic for the NPC companies.

Well, since there's tons of amounts of stuff like limes floating on B2B that no one is actually selling retail, it's kinda like that right now.  I'm selling 1,500 limes a tick at 4$ a pop in a tiny farmer's market.  Not that I'm complaining about that.

I just started playing, and realized I have no idea what I'm doing and essentially just screwed myself over.  Might make a new account to start over, could any Bay12er please give me a little guide on how to get an industry going?

I started not long ago too (and don't really know what I'm doing), but you can restart your account in Settings.

Here's what I suggest:

-Start by focusing on retail, many of the items on B2B aren't being sold in stores, so you can get some great fast returns, especially with high volume good like produce.

-Once you've got some cash flowing in, concentrate on producing and researching one raw material.  Then, as you are increasing quality there, start looking into what you can make out of the raw material you can sell in retail.  Try finding the most simple recipes first and then working your way into new products one at a time.

This is what I've figured out so far, but it's gotten my first mess of a company back from the brink of bankruptcy.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I had 4B of cash from the previous age... plenty of money to kickstart a company I guess.

Sell them using retail stores, it makes plenty of money (compared to export or b2b).
