the issue is, I don't produce anything. This company is solely sales. I guess I'll have to sustain it with my own cash.

If you're in deep sh*t I can always send you a few millions, send me a PM (Dominique De Pomme).

What i tend to do with Stores/primary production factories, is to run them in pairs.
I'll have one that's quite a bit larger than the other, i'll upgrade the small one untill it;'s bigger than the larger one is. then upgrade the formerly largest one.
It does mean that i'm basically only using half my production whenever i upgrade, but for stores i can use advertising to somewhat minimise this.
It's very expensive though, after about 75% you're paying a hell of alot for a slight bonus to sales.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I was thinking. I have some extra cash laying around and could potentially finance a new company. I already have a ton of stock market investments, and im tired of getting crappy companies dumped on me when they sell out their shares. So, would anyone like to run a company on someone else's money?

Here is the thought: I open a company, name it whatever you like, and hire you on with full control of the company. I transfer some cash into it (say a few hundred million, or however much you need to get things started) and you build it up and run it however you like. I could keep an eye on it and give advice, but in the end it's your company to run how you see fit (as long as you aren't embezzling my money on bad b2b deals :P). Once it's profitable you could take a 20% share of the profit in wages. And if you like, we could IPO it eventually and let you buy up the majority control of it. Or if it winds up sucking I could always just smash it and liquidate it to get most of my money back.

If anyone is interested, I'll be in the IRC for a bit.

I'm fine for the moment, I only have about 200k in expenses a day. It's just frustrating that I can't do anything. I didn't realize I no longer had instabuild.

We just need to get Toady to embed a Lisp interpreter into DF.  Learning lambda calculus in order to play the game wouldn't make DF's learning curve much steeper.

See, that's why I always offer a couple of products at extortionate prices (say, chemicals at 8-10$). When someone buys out everything on the market, I make a huge profit. A round of buying all of my stuff left me with an extra 6 million right after I spent 6 million expanding my venues into mining and smelting.
