Even if the dwarf could survive in the magma, which they can't, how would you expect them to... I dunno, breathe?

If they survive, they could stay about a week under, enough to make a tile for air, then back out to work.

So if somehow this worked, as you proved it wont, but if it did, it would be doable.

Apparently people have forgotten about thermal conduction. Steel is not very insulating.

Full adamantine gear worked well enough for a magma swimsuit in previous versions. VERY high specific heat.

We're more focused on liposuction as a method of heat resistance

Tested in arena. Death results quickly, even if the magma is only 1/7.

I've tested this in the past too, with the same results. Although I know for a fact that I've had steel plated military dwarves walk through small puddles of magma unharmed back in 40d.

What about a full set of nethercap armor?
It always is at low temp right?

nether-cap items get destroyed in magma, you'd have to do some serious modding.

You'd also have to make them cover things like the eyes.

It's fairly easy to get to 100% coverage or higher with fireproof materials. A robe, gloves, boots and a hood. That's all you need.

That combo makes you completely immune to fire imp fireballs, but not imp firebreath or standing in magma even for a second. Being "engulfed" in flames or magma seems to be treated differently and always flows around and under armor.
