No, be an independent, a pure military leader.  Have over 50% of your population become soldiers!

Hello mi fellow Tropicans!

El Presidente has arrived, and will rule for 10 years, before the reigns of power are given to another!

Who is El Presidente?

I am glad you ask, my Tropican!

Hola mi fellow Tropicans!

Does the island looks empty, no?

Well El Presidente took the liberty of building a church for all you lovely Tropicans!

True, this did put the national treasury into the negative, but El Presidente assures me that when the sugar flows the money will flood in! As you can see, there is an unfinished Tenement, however Presidente tells me that the homeless can sleep in the house of God.

¿Qué, sí?
Es el Presidente.
Permítanme hablar con él.
sí Presidente.

Well, my Tropicans, El Presidente has informed me that there are three courses of action we can take to elevate our island into esplendor!

1.Chop the trees to shreds!

2.Get some agriculture!

3.Build a Tourist industry!

3. and 1. Tourist lumber camps!

Worst plan ever. Tourists hate treeless islands. I vote 1 then 2 once the trees are gone.

1 & 2, we shall denude the island, then replant it anew with bountiful cash crops!

Can't you force the tourists to work in the lumber camps? That'd be ideal.

but that island is tiny! doesn't agriculture need a larger area, to generate prosperity? as it is now, I can't see the island going far with farms.

... We have NO minerals. No, agriculture of cash crops will work the best. Also fishing. And then finished products such as canned food and cigars. Or be total communist and just agriculture.
