As I thought. Or perhaps I just don't have enough experience with this. In any case, on to the original problem.

Mier seats himself on the forest floor, focusing his thoughts further.

Point the first: can make light pass through myself, but cannot see while doing so. Can make light flow around myself, retaining vision but also remaining partially visible. Therefore, I can assume that light must reach my eyes to be able to see, which implies that light must-hmm, 'bounce off', perhaps?-yes, must bounce off of me and reach the eyes of others in order for me to be seen. Now then...!

Mier imagines light not reflecting from himself, touching his body and belongings and then simply being absorbed.

Thoki saw the guards and stopped the group a ways back. If they were to get in they would need a plan.

"They aren't just going to let us know who issued the bounty on the namu. They seem like the blind followers anyways. If they ask we're from the far east past the eastern village. We've moved here after poisonous gases trapped under large totem poles forced us from our homes. We heard about the bounty and want to know more about it. Mainly whether or not the same thing is happening here."

He sighed a bit, but looked up in a determined way.

"I know that it's all a lie, but I want to know who we're up against. Just be careful not to make any rash moves if we get inside. We'll have a hard time getting out if we get too far in."

Thoki moved away from the group for a moment and walked up to the guard.

"Me and a few others heard there was a bounty on totem poles here. We were wondering if you could tell us more about it."

Jacques

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Ah, sure, excellent!"
The man nods in satisfaction.
"So, first things first, I image you would want compensation. How does this sound?"

He takes out a slab of stone and a chalk piece and writes down 'f 1232'. You remember that you bought the stone for three hundred coins.

He talks a bit while you ponder.

"The thing is, our temple in this village is rather small compared to the grandeur of the other temples over the continents. . . if you want to have more work with us, you need to head towards a major branch, preferably the main cathedral or one of the Seats. . ."

Kaelan

You head into your village; there are a small number of armed men wearing clean armor and bearing the mark of a red scale on their shields, but no mercenaries. You cast your mind around as to where to sell the gems. It's either the old man who lives by himself in a secluded corner of the town, or the larger gem sellers who set shop in the north village, where all the outsiders are. If you gauge the time right and meet the outsider caravan, you could probably sell it for a better price, since the outsiders covet gems.

Thoki / Aile / Salden

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Well, the bounty paper's inside... "
The man gestures, then continues.
"The thing is, I have no idea. I'm just a man near the bottom of the military ladder, and the higher-ups probably know better. Heck, even my squad leader doesn't know why, just that he has to."

Mier

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You fail to access your power and nothing happens. You try again:

[6,3,3]

Using 1 power, you feel ... warm? You look down at yourself : you are now a black mass, with no discernible features, and only the outline of a person. You also feel more and more warm.

Inser

You say, "That's too bad; why are these things like that?"

... and at the same time exercise your mind.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You fail to draw power, and nothing happens. The man replies,

"We dunno, but that's what it said on the paper. We're just more honest men, trying to make a honest living... Anyways, you coming quietly or ya going to be a struggl'r?"

Mier quickly releases his power.

"How strange. Perhaps I am accidentally absorbing more than light? Heat, I suppose. That makes sense; the sun gives us the gift of warmth as well as that of light."

Ye-es, it was no different than wearing black clothing, I suppose. That raises another question: why are things colored? The light of the sun is yellow-white, yet things have such a variety of colors. So if white is indicative of light, and I turned pitch-black when absorbing it, black could be indicative of a total lack of light. That means... yes, I see how that could work. That would mean that the different colors are representative of some sort of scale between white and black, between presence and absence. This could be related to how transparent things like water and glass can change the way light moves and split it into different colors, like the way it looks when the sun shines after rainfall. That would seem to imply that there is some sort of difference between the colors that makes them react differently to the same thing...

"Hmf. Don't really know how that could be useful, but it seems interesting, and it is better to know than to not know. Very well then."

Mier starts back towards the temple town. As he walks, he holds his power, attempting to split sunlight into seperate components [a rainbow/the different wavelengths of visible light].

Thoki clasped his hands together as if begging the guard.

"You've got to let me talk to someone higher up. We've had to leave our homes once already, and I just want to be sure that we can settle here in peace. You see there was poison gases trapped under totem poles where I came from and it made our homes unlivable. We just need to be sure before we build our own houses. Please?"

Jacques considers the offer. It is quite generous, really. Almost f 1000 in profit for the statue... Still, it never hurt to haggle a little:

"That is a most generous offer monsieur. But it is a strange number for a price, is it not? 1250 would be nice and round."

Jacques makes a token attempt at haggling before agreeing to sell the statue.

Try and magically remove the sheen of rust covering the merchandise; if successful, visit the caravans; otherwise, go to the blacksmith and see if it'd be possible polish the rust off.

Hang around in the back, letting Thoki do his thing.

No, on second thought...

Ask one of the red scale mercenaries where he's from and what he's doing here. Ask what the food is like where he comes from.

Thoki & Aile

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"What, you're that unfortunate?!"
The guard is astonished.

"In this case, I'm sure we can help you out! I think we are allowed to take you to one of the main forts and let you live there... David? DAVID!"

He proceeds to call another man, who promptly walks out.

"Yes?"
"These kids, they say they're evicted because of some magical event . . . think they qualify for that grant?"
"Hmm... I'm not sure, but I do think so."

Apparently there is something going down here. The two guards talk a bit and say words like 'move', 'settle', 'help', and 'Fort Mnocepac'.

Inser
((Uh-oh, bad roll...))
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Your magic power crackles from the tips of your hands, using 1 power. The mercenaries immediately narrow their eyes, and two of the men grab you again.

"Eh, poor luck, dude? Seems like yer coming withus... Sorry, really."

((I forgot how many men there were D:))

Jacques

"Sure, sure, I am even relieved that you are willing to sell this priceless piece for a mere 1250! I don't even know how a great artist like yourself is not known . . ."

The man ushers you into the left side of the temple and down a small hall to a vault room. He opens a small tiller and starts writing down some numbers and letters.

"If you are willing, the temple here can send you to one of the larger temples, with most expenses paid. Like I said, you can have a better chance at selling many statues, especially since statues are too heavy to just move around, yes?"

Trendam

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You fail again to access your power, and nothing much happens. You head to the blacksmith of the northern village.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The blacksmith nods and removes the rust for you, using some sort of rough material. The iron rod is now lined with long, straight scratches which somehow make it look even less like a simple bar of metal, and more like a decoration. He also offers to sell a potion that prevents rust for one month, for f100.

You have 120 copper coins' worth of notes left.

Salden

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The red scales are not mercenaries, you learn. They are one of the many military squads of the nation your village (all of the nine) is supposedly in. He is on a military mission, and doesn't really know why exactly a full squad was sent here. Finally, he says that where he came from, most of the meals were fish.

Mier

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You envision an invisible prism that would split light into the rainbow colors, like the glass ones. You fail to draw your power, but you know that the concept is sound and will work.

In front of the temple is three young people talking with two guards.

Thank him, buy the potion and head towards the Caravan. (I do not wish to apply the potion just yet)
