Kaelan offers to guide the men to the totem he found, with the proper payment, of course...

(Around how many are there, and how well armed are they? More importantly, do they look like they would be in possession of anything valuable?)

Thoki looked up at the marvelously crafted temple before him. The designs of such temples always amazed him. Many of the symbols from his occult texts were based things found on temples just like this one. Well, older temples anyways, but the air of mystery was still there. He sat on the edge of one of the beautifully detailed gold fountains and gazed around at the temple grounds.

Admire the structures before heading in to ask about the bounty.

Kaelan supplementary

There are five men, all muscled like they had trained for long. They are in black clothes that seem to hide no armor. Each one has a number of weapons of choice: three men wield large axes, one man has a pair of long and short sword, and the final man has a halberd.

Money jingles in their pockets, and they order the most expensive meals without fear.

Well, what have we here?

Mier continues walking calmly until he reaches a section of the forest where the trees grow broad and tall, where the forest floor is blanketed in shadows. He moves carefully to put trees and brush between him and his stalker, slipping into the shadows. He draws his dagger and waits for the other to appear. A thought comes to him, and Mier attempts to drain some of the light from the space around himself, making the shadows deeper and darker, while allowing enough to reach his eyes for the world around him to remain visible.

I don't think I've seen Azthor around, have I? O_o I also notice the lack of Fire, whoever s/he is.

Spoiler: Aile Urien (click to show/hide)

Examine the rustling in those bushes outside.

Aile finished the last of her meal, looking out the window at the clear morning sky. It was life as usual, with her planning to go back into the forest and inspect that namu. However, a sound outside caught her attention, which she goes over to inspect.

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

MORE ELECTRICAL POWER!!!  And by that, I mean test electricity on any live animal, preferably something small, like a squirrel, bunny, or rat.  Not too much, just enough to kill the creature.

Is it just me or is everyone bloodthirsty or quick to hostilities except for Thoki and Salden? Not that I really mind. In fact it might lead to some !!FUN!! down the line if Thoki meets other people on bad terms.

Touching the namu was not quite what Jacques expected. There was no flash of power like there had been the first time, nor any sudden restoration of power. But he felt stronger somehow. Like he could hold more power.

Perhaps the namu needed to be cold if it were to work? What luck that Jacques had brought some snow...

Jacques piles what little snow survived the trip onto the namu, hoping to get a stronger reaction out of it.

Kaelan acts as how you would expect an average rogue to. Less outright violent, more greedy.

Salden

The raven caws loudly, and seems to have a look a disapproval.

It pecks your hand hard.

Kaelan

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Sure, why not?"
A couple of the men accept, and the others get ready to leave.

"Say... we'll pay you f100 when we get there. Sounds good?"

Thoki

You enter the temple. Inside is a spacious open space, with high, arching pillars and a huge state of a goddess. She has a blindfold, and is leaning on a cruciform sword that is embedded in the 'ground'. From one arm hangs a set of scales, and from the other hangs a chain. The statue is made from some pure-colored stone, and is white.

It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the newer, darker area. There are a pair of doors leading to either side, close to the doorway you just entered. The right side is marked, Services. You guess that that is the way that you should go.

The wooden door hinges open soundlessly, light and well-balanced. On  the other side is a bit rowdy scene, in stark contrast to the serene temple. A number of men are exchanging f notes for coinage; others are doing the opposite. More people are gathered around the tables on the far side, and behind those tables is a bulletin board with long sheets of paper nailed to it.

You carefully head to the bulletin board and find the bounty you heard of. The paper says,

Totem hunt
The temple has received a request from one of its outside connections to post this note. The temple does not in any way endorse the content of this bulletin, except for the pay.

There are a number of totems in the forest around the nine villages. Each totem is said to be painted in a bright color, and is about as tall as one and one half men. The totems apparently are made of wood, but they may have other extraordinary properties. These totems are extremely dangerous, and should not be touched under the threat of death and/or court. One who finds such a totem should (a) remember where it is, (b) report to the left atrium of the temple, (c) find a man with a shield that has a red scale image on it, and (d) lead that man and/or his representative(s) to the totem. Should it be the totem we are looking for, the first reporter shall receive ten f100 notes.

Again, the totems are potentially dangerous and should not be touched.

Mier

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You deliberately lengthen your stride. Seeing the man also pick up his pace, you surmise that he  is either inexperienced at trailing people, or doesn't care. You dip around the corner in the trail and silently slip into the thick brush you knew was there. Also, you attempt to drain light...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

... you use 1 power but fail.

The man rounds the corner. He is a thinly-built man, wearing tight black robes and has a pair of crossbows and a rapier on his belt. He scratches his head, looking around.

Aile

You peek outside. There is a tiny mouse hiding from a largish black cat. The cat has cornered the mouse, who has nowhere to go now. Except maybe the cat's mouth. The cat looks up at you.

NRDL

You catch a butterfly. You then shock it to death. It flutters to the ground.

Jacques

You pile snow on the namu, or try to, but none survived. You poor the cold water onto the namu and touch it again. It feels the same as it just did.

"OW!" Salden cried out, sounding almost (emotionally) hurt. "What'd I do?"

He glared at the bird for a few moments, brow furrowed.

"...are you here about the totem? The namu, I mean? Having a raven show up doesn't sound too far-fetched after something like that..."

Thoki was reading over the bounty eagerly, reading it line by line until he hit the line saying that the totems shouldn't be touched under threat of death or court. 'Oh crap. I can't lead them there. They might ask questions, and I don't want to lie the entire way there. Besides if I can find the totems on my own I might be able to learn more magic. I can't let a chance like this get away. Not now.' He looked around for a moment before getting into line to exchange coinage to make it look like he was there for another reason. He stood in line for a moment before pulling out his coin bag, it was getting light. He looked into the bag and shook his head as if he didn't have the coins to exchange. Who knows, he might not have the coins anyways.

Attempt to leave. If anyone asks you were missing coins. Ask someone for directions to the nearest village.

So, any hints on what that other power is?

Begin moving to northern village

Inser hasn't done anything violent. Unless you count erasing a rock as violent. Really though, the only other thing I can think of for void that doesn't involve making things stop being is teleportation, and that seems dangerous for a "level 1" fresh mage.

You can create air vacuums. You can use those to toss people into walls and such. If you make a hollow sphere vacuum with air in the middle and you can rip someone apart if you have enough energy. Trust me. Voids can be very dangerous.
