Kaelan heads to the eastern ridge, taking an unconventional path to avoid anyone the boy had informed. He hides and observes the caravan when he arrives.

Thoki walked up to the man playing with paper stopping in front of him. "Hello, I was told to talk to someone here about the bounties on the totems. I wanted to know more about the threat these things are. They said that I qualified for some sort of grant, but I can't bear the thought of an unspeakable threat outside the door." He kept it simple. If they pressed him he could give them the same story he told the other guy before he entered the atrium. He hoped that just mentioning the grant would be enough.

Ask about the totems.

"Well, it looks like we're seeing some familiar outfits here.

Salden, you were responsible with the anything involving geologic properties right? I'll try and...wreathe my namu with fire and maybe practice ventriloquism on it?"

"Yeah," Salden whispered back. "Um, but how are you going to use ventriloquism?"

"Well...um, I didn't actually learn it, idea just popped into my head.

So are you ready?"

Envelop namu in fire.

"I just hope this works, if the namu has gifted this to me, then it won't be affected. Or so my hypothesis goes."

Jacques didn't really have much elses to do, so he decided to find a lake or river and practice his magic a bit.

Jacques goes off to find a body of water.

Mier heads towards the ridge.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You note that another person started moving as soon as you did, but he went on a different path. No worries there, probably. Arriving, you make sure to stay near the shrubs and peer at the sight. There are about seven or eight large canvas-covered wagons with two horses tethered to them each that have stepped out of the caravan line. There are many wagon-tracks behind the wagons that seem to indicate that there were much more but they had fled. The people who had supposedly attacked the merchants are nowhere in sight, but the corpses of the merchants are lying around the ridge in a gruesome, bloody display.

Kaelan observes the above.

Inser searches around for animals, but he doesn't seem to be able to find any.

Thoki talks to the man playing with the paper cards.

The man doesn't pause before saying,
"Well, I don't know anything about the totems. I've heard that there were some kids going around talking about them like they were some big danger, but ... I don't know."

He looks disinterested and stacks all his paper in a inch-high pile.

"There's a bounty on them, 2400 copper coins last time I heard, and it does say that they are dangerous, but I don't know."

Aile & Salden

Aile concentrates...

and using 1 power, she causes a minor twister of fire to appear for a moment around the namu before it disappears. That... didn't go well. The namu looks unaffected. Meanwhile, the men all jump and look around, before focusing back on the namu. They speak lowly among themselves.

Jacques heads to the reservoir that feeds the fountains in the plaza. It is on a nearby mountain; the outsiders dug a huge hole, connected it to the plaza, and diverted a small stream or four to fill the lake.

No-one else seems to be here.

Trendam attempts to try again, but this time nothing at all happens.

"Any suggestions?" Salden whispered to his raven, before looking back at Aile.

"I guess I could try shaking the earth and hope to scare them off. Kind of hoping for something a little more elaborate, though. Like appearing as a spirit and explaining that they should leave it alone. Oh! I'll bet Thoki would have been good at that, shame he didn't come with..."

Thoki walks over to the man eating oatmeal, hoping that he doesn't mind his meal being interrupted. "Excuse me, one of the town guards said that there was someone in the atrium that knew more about the totems with bounties. Do you know what kind of threat they are?"

Kaelan uses his power once again to give him a chameleon-like effect. He carefully heads towards the caravans and sees if there's anything valuable left, keeping an eye out for anyone else.

Staying hidden, Mier summons his power, attempting to pass light through the wagons, making them invisible.

If any of them are still lurking around, this might do the trick to draw them out.

Spoiler: Aile Urien (click to show/hide)

"Hm, you're right there. They seem to be the superstitious lot, judging by the looks on their faces."

An idea hit her mind from the east, but she shrugged it off after thinking of the consequences.

"Nnaranha can't be that spirit though. They have those sharp things with them. Thoki would've been a great help here, but it seems we have to mix and match what we can do.

And, I do believe I can control fire. In a forest.

This does not bode well."
