This is amazing. I never realized how easy magic could be to use, he thought to himself with a smile on his face. His smile quickly faded, what could this be used for? Is it even constructive? He knew that shadows simply weren't solid, so he couldn't make anything with them. All he knew was that he could make shadows slice objects so far. He would have to think about it before he made a decision of what to do with this magic.

Head home to experiment with magic. Dim torches into total darkness.

You watch in amazement as the small flame is dimmed, and then turned dark. However, the flame is still visible as a pale reflection of what it was before you used your magic, and it is still hot. You merely shut off the 'light' part of it. You touch a wood splinter to it; it catches fire, and you drop it in the candleholder.

You leap to the side and slam into a tree. Slightly dazed, you watch the boar catch itself in vegetation. It shakes itself free, turns, and charges.

[Flying Dice]

"We-ell~." So I can shift light in ways it doesn't normally work, but it is still intangible. I wonder if I could strengthen it enough for it to be able to interact with physical objects. What about making it move in ways it normally wouldn't? Light always seems to travel in straight lines, but it normally doesn't pass through solid object. But it can also change direction, like when it shines on the surface of a pool of water; that light shouldn't be visible, but it is.

Mier attempts first to passively allow light to pass through his body and clothing rather than reflecting from it, and then to bend the flows of light around his body, in both cases in an effort to make himself invisible to visual senses.

Thoki was rather pleased by all of this. He smiled at the thoughts of his power and the possibilities that awaited him. There has to be a way to use these powers for something constructive and not just parlor tricks. If I can manipulate shadows to cut and conceal objects, where could I go to use my powers? He thought for a minute, cleaning his pince-nez with his shirt, leaving his coat open as always. Then the thought dawned on him. I can become a knight, and defend people with my magic. All I need to do is find out how to become a knight. He thought about it, and decided to head down to the local bar to ask about where to apply to become a knight.

Go to the bar to gather information. Order a drink while you're at it.

(I hadn't been thinking of ice cubes, actually. More like the ice blocks that ice sculptors use. Since Jacques is a sculptor, it seemed fitting.))

Jacques was disheartened by his failure, but he did not give up. So what if he couldn't make ice? Maybe magic didn't work like that. It had been a strange thing, after all, wanting an ice block.

"Here, let me try again, oui? I am sure I can do this!" Jacques said, and closed his eyes to focus on the winter, on snowmen he had built as a child, on icicles hanging from windows and the cold winter wind blowing in the night.

Jacques tries as hard as he can to freeze something - anything - to prove (as much to himself as anything else) that he really can do magic.

You can almost feel that winter.... Icicles seem to be grazing your skin, a freezing chill buffets you...

"That's enough, Jacques! I believe you! In fact, I'm sure everyone does! Now, please ..."

You open your eyes to see winter. Your drink is frozen solid, and icicles hang from the cup. You exhale breath that you can see, and le bartender's mustache looks a bit snowy. He was shaking his hands in front of you, desperately trying to wake you from your trance. His summer clothing is way too thin to help him against the conjured cold.

Interesting. So if I disconnect myself from light, I can't see...? Or maybe I'm just not experienced enough with this... magic. It is magic, isn't it? How curious. This could be useful, if I can figure out how to control it properly.
