Spoiler: Aile Urien (click to show/hide)

"Knocked down by-..." A rush of questions ran through Aile's mind, beginning with the thought of being an avatar of an object and ending with conflicting thoughts on whether to follow this cat. She knew communing with animals was naturally difficult, but this was just like a friendly conversation.

Strange.

Aile touches the namu again with her hands pressed on her dagger.

Then, using her dagger, Aile tries to cut out a portion of the namu.

"If I am an avatar, how can you speak, feline?"

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Well, for starters, it's the direct source of your power. It is much more durable than regular wood, and its color never fades. It's also nigh impossible to break with mundane means, but not actually impossible."

The raven speaks in a low voice, stopping whenever a person comes within fifty feet.

You can create a manifestation of your power without using any of your power. With that manifest, you can effortlessly take a piece away, or even manipulate the namu's shape. Since you can use the namu as a focus for your power, you should take a few small chips, then hide the namu and leave. There are men all over the forest looking for it..."

Mier

<< 2 iron crossbows, 1 iron rapier obtained>>

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You search the man's body, and find a backpack, a smaller bag that you can sling over your body, and an empty waterskin. The backpack has two day's worth of rations, a pair of red apples, some dried fruit, a hand-written copy of a bounty note, a stick of charcoal, three f20 notes, a small grindstone, a wad of leather strips, a cloth pouch with twenty-six copper coins in it, an unused torch, a set of flint and steel, a tightly closed metal case of oil, a short length (20 ft) of rope, and a spare set of clothes. The smaller bag has another waterskin, this one full. You think for a moment, then curiously look inside the empty waterskin. Lo: there is a single note hidden there. You take it out, but it is in a language you do not have the ability to read. It seems to be the language of the Deep Centrals, who are a certain kind of outsider who live to the west, they say. How far, you do not know- villagers don't often learn about what is outside their small basin.

You straighten the man's body and set off to your namu.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The namu is intact, and no-one save you seems to have been here.

Kaelan

The man has a shoulder-pack and an axe along with two daggers.

In the pack is one day's worth of rations, a half-full water-skin, a stick with cloth wrapped along one end, and  a traveling staff made of wood.

You head to your namu.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nothing has happened.

Thoki

Sadly, you do not pass out again.

Nothing else happens.

Salden

You swing your hatchet powerfully, in a proper wood-chopping swing.

However, it glances off, and you barely control it, stopping it from amputating your leg.

The raven caws loudly in your ear: you think it is laughing.

"Of course, not every dog or cow that comes can harm the namu... Use your magic and create a manifest of the idea of your power. A sphere or orb of creation, if you get my gist."

Mier reads the bounty note. He then sizes up the namu.

Too large for me to move, probably.

Mier attempts to lift the namu. If it is too heavy for him to carry back to his village, he doesn't continue.

In the above case, he then focuses his power while placing his hand on the namu, willing it to either shrink to a portable size or detach a piece of itself.

"What? What's wrong?" Thoki took a step back from the namu, staring at the totem in confusion. "I passed out last time I touched one of these. I didn't even feel anything this time." He felt betrayed by the totem, almost as if something had been taken away from him at the last moment. An anger coursed through him and he ran up to the nearest tree, punching it with his shadowy hand. "Damn it! I was so close." After a few seconds he sighed in defeat. "There has to be something I can do." He calmed down and thought about it as he sat against a large tree.

He had an idea, but for all he knew it would just a waste of time. He looked next to himself, picturing a humanoid figure of solid shadows sitting next to him against the tree. He wasn't sure of what shape it should have, but he supposed that it was fitting for a shadow being to lack a true shape. Chances are that it wouldn't talk to him, but he needed to know about these totems. The books that he'd read in the past didn't say anything about these totems, so chances are that there is no written information about how these work. He'd just have to ask the figure.

Form a figure to talk to.

I seem to have a tendency to skip people D:

Inser

You effortlessly create a small ball of nothingness. Strangely, it's like looking through a lens, or water: objects on the other side look distorted. You touch that to the namu, and will that a small shard, enough to palm, comes off. A diamond shaped shard of the namu glows black before slithering off and falling into your hand. It has the texture of sanded wood, and is colored the same as your namu.

Mier

Totem hunt
There are a number of totems in the forest -each totem is said to be painted in a bright color, and is about as tall as 1&1/2 men. made of wood, other extraordinary properties. extremely dangerous, and should not be touched under the threat of death and/or court. One who finds such a totem should report to the left atrium of the temple, find a man with a shield that has a red scale image on it, and lead that man to the totem. the first reporter shall receive ten f100 notes.

You try to lift the namu, but it is embedded in the ground as firmly as a tree and doesn't budge. Instead, you place a hand on the namu and wish.

Shortly after, a palm-sized shard of it falls off. At the same time, the namu shrinks and shrinks, until it is the size of a mushroom.

Salden

A small orb of ... 'something' is created in your hand. It looks like it is a tadpole egg, but large as your hand and without the black tadpole in the middle. It is insubstantial - it doesn't block the wind nor your finger, and also happens to be warm as you are. It also lazily swirls around inside, with tiny green specks floating with the swirls.

Aile

You touch the namu again, with your hand on your dagger, but nothing much happens. . . for a while, at least, but then you feel like you have more power.

<Power set to 6/6>

You then set the dagger like you were going to shave off a piece of the totem and push, but the dagger skids off. It's like you tried to cut into metal, as your blade slips off the totem without finding purchase.

Trendam

First of all, you know that the villagers don't really serve a 'religion' as much as they believe in the three primal forces of creation and the nine aspects of the world. Second, you know that the god the temple in the north village serves is a god of retribution and justice. She is said to 'blindly' follow the law, or rather Law, and taketh with one hand while swinging her sword with the other.

Other than that, you have little knowledge of world religion.

Thoki

<error : no profile xD>

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You concentrate, and image a person next to you, made of shadow. The vague outline of a man slowly materializes, but he has no features other than the indents of eyes and nose, a line that represents a mouth, and fingers. The feet and head are all smooth and blank, and there are no clothes, hair, or muscles.

It looks at you.

Used 1 power.

((I was in a bit of a rush to get to work. Sorry about the lack of profile.))

Thoki looked at the shadow man sitting next to him and adjusted his pince-nez to be sure that he wasn't just seeing things. The thing had a mouth. That was a good sign. 'Maybe it can answer my problem.' He watched the shadow figure closely, as if it were a threat. He had never thought of creating another being before now, and he wasn't sure how it would react. He posed his question to the figure. "Why won't this totem react to me? The one in my village did."

Wait for an answer.

If life and void are what I control, I suppose I should try my hand at life.
Try to make a tree grow around the namu

Jacques' attempts at meditation, however relaxing, were not successful. Perhaps he was not meant to be a magician. Perhaps he should just go home and do what he was actually good at, sculpting. He would forget all of this 'magic' rubbish - it had brought him nothing but trouble and headaches.

Jacques, having given up on trying to learn magic, goes home to get back to work on his sculptures.
