Fourteen year old child
« on: April 07, 2012, 05:22:07 pm »

I've got a 14 year old Dwarven child running around. He's an immigrant from a few months ago, so he didn't age past 12 in the fortress and turn into a peasant. Is he going to age to the 150-170 ceiling age, still a child? Is there any way to make him grow up? I really don't want to go into the raws and change the Dwarven growing up age to 15, because if I do, there's about 3 other kids who will hit 12 by the time he's 15, and I'll get stuck with even more.

If several years go by and he still doesn't become an adult, he might be a Vampire.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

He's with 3 siblings and his parents. And he was born in the year 67. I thought vampires were created at world gen?

Edit: Yeah, not a vampire. Just saw him eating.

I think the gods can curse anyone to be a vampire.   I read a thread where a newborn soon began drinking blood from its mother.

to what year did you set worldgen and did you abandon previous forts?

I had something similar happening with women who were carrying 5 year old babies. They did turn into children in the end but it was a bit weird. I was guessing they were migrants from an earlier fort and since worldgen ended the children didn't automatically grow up anymore but had to be at a fort for that. As I go further into the game that might cause 30 year old babies to show up at my fort... Fun, just like reality.

I believe it only checks whether they should be "leveled up" when they actually get older. He should become an adult on his next birthday.

Absentia is correct. I had a 16 year old child show up at a new fort (in a fresh world) but he became a peasant at the start of the next year, as did another child that was 14 when he showed up.

Yeah, it's weird. I've gotten a couple new old children, but they've grown up into peasants at their next birthday.
