++sucks++

???

Otherwise, grow some pig tails/rope reeds, process them at a farmer's workshop and weave the thread into cloth.

Or shear a creature and process it into yarn, and weave cloth out of aforementioned yarn.

Or spiders.

Lots and lots of spiders.

Rope reeds are easiest, you can buy them in bulk from the humans and the elves. Also, check the Dwarf Fortress Wiki.

You can also buy pig tails from the Dwarves, and pig tails grow faster than rope reeds. Both are pretty much equal though.

Also forgot you spin thread into cloth at a loom, that's about it really/

I wasn't talking about growing them, I was talking about buying ready-made cloth.

Ofcourse the dwarves would probably be the best for that too if you ordered large quantities of wool cloth, pig tail fibre cloth and GCS and CS silks.

But the elves are pretty much guaranteed to bring cloth and so are the humans in my experiences. Although the elves also bring some wearable clothes, occasionally.

Pig tails and rope reeds (not sure about those) need to be (P)rocessed at the farmer's workshop, where they're made into thread and your looms will transform that into cloth automatically. If you have weavers at the ready.

Or if you're feeling dwarfy? Try adamantine. Finally you have a use for those damn strand extractors.

Wait. What? You're not telling me that the hardest metal in Dwarf Fortress can rot?

yup, pretty sure it does when it's clothing. Read it from someone back in 31.25, but I saw no anouncement or rejoicing that it had been changed.
