Ostentatious adventure time! Take 3, quick question...
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:03:26 am »

First a little back story.
Made an adventurer (several really), and after quite a few helpful visits to scary bandits, my adventurer had become very powerful, and acquired quite a bit of wealth.
So it was in a gem store where I planned to convert all of my accrued items into gems, when I saw it : A tiger bone amulet, adorned with aquamarine and spikes of the sea serpent variety. Dwarf make. ☼1000 Urists of value, the cost was in the way, but the symbology was worth the price, and my method of killing was disarming, strangling and smashing with my gem incrusted scepter.
During some boss task sent to me by Lord who gives a crap, I walked into a room full of a dozen master lashers. I made it out alive, slept the broken bones off, gathered a new party and tried again. And again. Then three more times after that. I didn't escape the 7th time. The amulet was lost.

So new adventure!
Elite wrestler (as usual, I've grown accustomed to unarmed combat).
Goal list!
  • Gather as much wealth as possible. I currently have over ☼16,000 Urists in coins alone, a full set of masterwork leather armour (which causes civilians to actually shout DAAAAMMMMNN at you apparently), without killing a single thing. So far. I'm trying to be the "law abiding citizen who gets other people to kill everything for him."
  • Reclaim the amulet.
  • Become a hero in every human civ I come across.
  • Follow the migration path.

Started in the top right cyan/blue circle. I intend to become a hero there, move into the capital, reclaim the amulet with a small army, learn how to swim, cross the ocean in one of the two ways outlined, become a hero in the human civilization to the east, before going south to unchartered islands, moving further still to the outlined red island, where I will begin:
  • 1. An elf slaughter rampage
  • 2. Become a vampire and retire in their city, killing thousands through legends mode.
  • 3. A new way point to the mainlands;

Where I will cross Dwarf, Goblin and Elf lands until I reach the mountain range, where I will trek forward and swim home (resting at the volcanoes along the way), before retiring at the town I started in, wealthy and content.

tl;dr, show off your adventurer's god like wealth

Nice plan. The swimming might be difficult. You'll have to hope against freezing or, my personal most amusing incident, Giant Sperm Whale. What I didn't realise at the time is that they're 8 times bigger than normal... giving them a body size of 200 million units after only 10 years.
That's 8 times bigger than a dragon. In 1/100th of the time.

I don't think it really attacked me... probably didn't actually notice me.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

Warm ocean, not the worst of my worries.

Interestingly enough, I took a wrong turn and walked into the wrong fortress.

So instead of walking into the nice, empty catacombs where my amulet was, I walked into the nasty, uncleared ones full of more bandits than I care to think about.
[you are deceased]
Damn.
Luckily I put all of my money in a bank night creature lair. THE OSTENTATIOUSNESS CONTINUES!!
New adventure.

I don't think it really attacked me... probably didn't actually notice me.

Just think, a necromancer with a giant sperm whale...

My legendary steel clad demonic bringer of death got a quest to kill a weregirrafe

"Its the middle of the day, no worry!

Turned out it was a child, a child must been caught in the rampage of a past-weregiraffes.

HE WAS FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE! He beat me to death with his backpack! He used my fighting style once my legs were out! I dont know how but I think Toady implemented learning after-worldgen.

Woo! My quest is going on nicely. My mix of spear-fu and wrestling has won the day, and three warlords are dead, including all of the master lashers. Feels good. The amulet is lost, so that's -1 though. On the bright side, I gained so many gems I'm probably going to have to measure their wealth in fortress mode.
[All dumped in the home lair]
Up to 8 followers now in my small army, all soldiers (I'm onto 3 casualties), and somehow my very first companion is still alive. Very broken, but still alive.

...Does anyone happen to know the conditions for spreading lycanthropy?
Or if there's a cure?

I mean, just asking. For a friend.

To get it: on the full moon the beast form needs to bite you and pierce the skin with the bite.  You then need to disengage somehow and escape (at least turning into the beast form will heal the injury from the bite).

There is no cure.

Ah... In which case my third adventurer might now be a were-badger.

All the bite did was cause extreme bruising and a mortal wound...

What do you mean, it's lost? Items are supposed to be stored no matter where you leave them since 0.34.01. There still is scattering at some places, though.
