Well, I know jack shit about this game but here is my character on the pile:

Name: Horsa
Sex: Male
Zodiac Sign: Cancer

Wealthy or Low-born? Low born
Scholar or Soldier? Soldier
Worldly or Spiritual? Spiritual
Hardened or Green? Green

Other Notes: Eh, people seemed to do only Soldier/Worldly or Scholar/Spiritual so here is probably a weak as master of nothing. Is there a beastmaster job/class/whatever? Let me be that. Here is background-story:

A low born kid who lost his peasant parents in the war and grew up in the forest all by himself fostered by the animals. Discovered by a party of soldiers, where some minor lord paid for his education as a part of a prestige project that involved taming the wildling boy. The boy proved troublesome, often running of to the countryside or some stables or the other to stay with the animals he felt a natural, spiritual bond with. As a last ditch effort the noble enrolled him to the Royal Military Academy at Gariland. The boys feral style quickly but him at odds with the pampered and snobbish lordlings. If not for a chance meeting with a famed beastmaster visiting the Academy to set up chapter of beastmaster there he might have been thrown out in shame or killed in a duel with some offended noble boy. As it where the visiting beastermaster saw something the boy and offered him an apprenticeship. The boy gladly accepted and showed a talent for the art. Thus, what made him despised now made him respected, tough often only begrudgingly, among his peers and he even managed to make some friends.

Adjust background story and personality choices as necessary to suit the overal story.

Lecture 1: The Meager
Section 2: On the Road to Eagrose Castle
Spoiler: Dramatis Personae: (click to show/hide)

<===   ===>

When we had left off, Ramza and the rest of his class at the Academy had been sent west by The Order of the Northern Sky. They were to garrison Eagrose Castle, while The Order led a campaign against the seditious Corpse Brigade, who had been pillaging and fomenting unrest throughout Ivalice.

Now, Eagrose was the seat of House Beoulve, and for Ramza to return there also meant to confront his elder half-brothers, Zalbaag and Dycedarg. As one was a landed knight and captain of the Order, and the other an influential tactical advisor to Duke Larg, Liege-Lord of the duchy of Gallionne in west Ivalice, the prospect of meeting with them would have no doubt been daunting for the boy. It was perhaps for this reason that, according to records from the personal journal of Ramza himself, he was plagued by dreams of his family Manse, and his deceased father, during their travels west.

(Animatic: Click to Play)

You will find that the boy's desire to live up to his family name was a primary motivator for many of his decisions as a youth. For instance, despite knowing that he and his companions only carried the training equipment they had sparred with at the Academy, it was this pride that lead him to seek to intervene, when they encountered several armed Corpse Brigade members en route to Eagrose. According to the detailed journals kept by both Ramza and Robyn, we are able to reconstruct the events of their encounter, which can be broken into two distinct battles. In the first, Ramza, Delita, Furte, Robyn, and Ochita happened upon a highwayman and several footpads of the Brigade.

(Animatic: Click to Play)

The Brigade had made their intentions known; they had wounded the young man, and intended to kill him before he could speak. At Ramza's direction, the students engaged their foe, while Robyn tended the young man's wounds using rudimentary White Magicks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While they were still scattered, a determined squire leapt atop a nearby rock, preparing to deliver a lethal blow to the boy. Luckily Ramza's deft, albeit unscrupulous, use of nearby stones was enough to stop him.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Furte then advised them to set up a perimeter around their charge. With his usual headstrong manner, Delita instead chose to charge into the midst of the foe, and was quickly beset on all sides. His skill at swordplay was unquestioned even in those days, but the brigands had brought warbeasts, which the academy had not prepared him to face.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Delita fell quickly. Ochita abandoned the perimeter and rushed to his aid, applying Phoenix Down in time to save him... but the resulting gap left them in disarray.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Brigand's warbeast was a Red Panther, which as you may know can envenom their claws and fangs. Though not as widely used during the period as Chocobo, both because they cannot serve as mounts and tend to be fickle creatures, Panthers were employed by some brigands such as these.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Through the battle, the creature's venom took its toll, but Ochita and Robyn did what they could to counter its effects with their potions. Fortunately, Furte and Ramza were able to use their combined skill at arms to defeat the highwayman leading their foe, which marked a turning point in the battle.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Robyn's writings here make mention of Ochita, who had not been known to excel in either combat nor any one school of Magick. During the battle, he witnessed him employing a simple but curious technique, wherein he infused his dagger with weak Flare magick and struck with it, discharging the spell into his foe. Without knowing it, he had discovered a simple form of the same techniques used by the Black Knights of history. Intriguing, no?

...Golbez, I am going to have to tape your hand to your desk, aren't I?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At any rate, the battle to save the boy had been decided, but another conflict was being waged not far away. A second group of students had splintered from the others, in order to engage a smaller group of Corpse Brigade members who appeared to be looting some fallen guards nearby. Robyn's records name these students Xander of House Kerby, Krieg, Ishaan, Barbarossa, and Trixie. Though markedly more sparse, as Robyn did not himself witness most of the battle, the notes were enough to paint a picture of the battle...

"During our battle with Geoffrey's men, Krieg led a second group to intercept what we feared were scouts for a larger party. As it turned out, they had merely been looting several recently slain soldiers in the service to the Marquis de Limberry, and were unaware of our presence. According to Krieg's report, the squires had been struggling with one of their unruly Red Panthers, which appeared to have been wounded in an earlier battle. It had gone mad, and hissed and snapped when they tried to prod it from where it sulked. When its bit their leader (the others called him "Blackburn") hard enough to draw blood, the squire brandished his sword, intending to put the creature down."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Judging by the Sword Art he had employed, these were well-trained soldiers, and the arms they had looted were far superior to anything held by mere students. Nevertheless, Krieg hoped the Panther would provide ample distraction, and closed to engage them. Their Chemist was quick to fall, having been poisoned by the Panther's claws, with Barbarossa and Trixie cornering him. Blackburn was still busy trying to cut down the Panther, which had proven more difficult than he'd wagered... especially since Xander decided (despite protest) to use their supplies to heal the creature."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"The squire in red livery, however, wielded a heavy crossbow and buckler, and proved to be a deadly archer. Trixie was downed in one shot, and an angry Blackburn came to his ally's side to strike Krieg. Despite taking a wound, Krieg used the opening to take a solid swing at Blackburn's face, knocking the squire to the ground."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"From there, Trixie's wound was treated by Xander, the last squire was overwhelmed and defeated, and some of their stolen arms and armor were recovered. Also, perhaps due to our aid, the Panther seems to have taken a liking to the group. If it stays with us the rest of the way to Eagrose, someone will have to think up a name for it."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So with that, let us return to the battlefield where Ramza and his companions stood victorious over the fallen Corpse Brigade. With the battle won, the boy whom they had rescued finally had a chance to speak.

I think we've covered enough to call another break. If you have any questions about anything we've covered so far, feel free to see me up front.

Huzzah! Two new jobs just opened up; the Knight and the Archer. Both are available to anyone with the Squire Job at Level 3. Knights are a tanky job with an array of debuffs at their disposal, while Archers are ranged snipers specialized in mobility and high-damage charged shots. Their descriptions are in the OP. Remember that you can mix and match other abilities freely, but you can only have two active sets of battle-skills at one time, one from your active job, and one from a secondary job of your choice.

Anyway, here's the roster once more, now including Ishaan, Barbarossa, and Trixie. Everyone got some field experience and some job levels under their belts, so feel free to spend points and change jobs as you wish. We'll have a chance to rest and reequip at Eagrose Castle, and from there head on to adventure!

Yaaay! I was worried when I saw a new chemist with a Mithril Knife that Robyn had died. If I could, I'll grab Beastmaster with my Squire JP (I think it's Squire anyway) so kitty can use her fourth ability but I'm going to wait for a Pig or something else more supporty to grab a pet I think. Do you still have to be adjacent for Beastmaster to work? Alternatively, if someone else wants to get Beastmaster we could probably really use Salve (or I guess Antidote would work too :P) for poison curing.

Edit: Yeah I'm gonna go Beastmaster and grab Antidote, then start saving Chemist JP for Ether.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Hmm..

Soli, is it okay if we add our own character's journals and things like that for personal development, and individual views on the battle?

Bluerobin, remember that the JP in the rightmost column are your unspent JP. The ones on the left are your total JP earned, compared with how many you need to reach next level (100 per level, I believe). I don't think you have enough for Beastmaster yet, but I can save them.

Also, Beastmaster only works if adjacent to the monster, yeah. They did get significant buffs generally speaking, and each have pretty unique tricks, which makes it worthwhile to take them into battle now.

Sure, feel free to! Remember to keep them present-tense, though... as I don't know when/if characters are going to die. I can provide a bank of sprites to use on Imgur too, if you want to match the style I was using for Robyn's journal log. Speaking of which, I can stick to writing from NPC's/Ramza's perspective in the future. :P

EDIT: Here's a public album with all the available class icons in them: Linko

Ahh I thought Beastmaster was 150 or 200 but if it's more than that looking at the OP it's 300, so yeah save please. :)

Will do. Note, however, if anyone is interested in what skills they can take, what equipment types there are, or what stats do what, all the details ought to be up in the OP. If you have mechanics questions feel free to ask too, so I know what else needs to go up there.

One of my goals was to make the game/rules transparent even for people who aren't familiar with the game, hence the "Let's" (rather than "I") in "Let's Play". >_o

Not quite sure I get the level up mechanics yet but I think Trixie should get treasure hunter then save up JP for when she changes classes.

Is there somewhere one might obtain this game so as to play along and understand the mechanics?

Hm.  I never got into any of these lets plays before.   I guess it might as well be one for the game I played entirely too long and had a full team of supergodly, level drain trap trained, brave/faith trained, lv 99 demigods that were perfectly capable of one shotting the last boss.

A no savescum game though huh?  FFT was one of the few games that could rack up a player controlled body count rivaling
a game from the x-com trilogy.  I sense spots will open quite fast.

Name: Greiger
Sex: Male
Zodiac Sign: Aries

Wealthy or Low-born? Low
Scholar or Soldier? Soldier
Worldly or Spiritual? Worldly
Hardened or Green? Hardened

Other Notes: Everybody needs a big burly front lines guy.  This is him.   This would pretty much be recreating my Greiger from my own game.  A heavily armed and armored knight specialist.  Give him a sword, cast protect, and point him to an enemy and watch him wreck single target havoc.

*
A ex-soldier from an unspecified army discharged for an altercation with a superior officer.  He worked as a mercenary guarding land based caravans traveling between Goug and Dorter from monsters and undead.  And is quite knowledgeable of their strengths and weaknesses.  He eventually saved the life of a repeat client of his from undead in the swampland near Goug with skillful use of potions against the undead assaulting the caravan, after the rest of the hired guards turned tail and ran.

The merchant returned the favor by pulling some strings to get him admitted into the academy.  Seeing the opportunity as a chance to get back to a steady paycheck, and maybe the cushy life of an officer or knight, he took the merchant up on the offer, sold most of his gear in Dorter to pay for tuition and joined the academy, letter of recommendation in hand.
*

Anyway, I would like to go knight with this guy.  My old build was knight class wielding Excalibur two handed(samurai) with charge(Archer) skills.  That would be the way I'd like to go, but I know chances of surviving even past chapter 1 are slim, and as a low I probably wouldn't even be allowed to touch Excalibur, so I guess I'll just see where it goes.

Submitting a character for the wait-list:

Name: Keandra
Sex: Female
Zodiac Sign: Saggitarius

Wealthy or Low-born? Low-born
Scholar or Soldier? Scholar
Worldly or Spiritual? Spiritual
Hardened or Green? Hardened

Other Notes: Eventual goal is to be a Black Mage/Summoner. She likes to destroy things, and wants to become the most powerful destructive mage in history. Power-goal is to get her Zodiac, if at all possible.

Oh, suggestion for everyone: It's highly recommended that everyone be a squire long enough to get the JP Up support skill. It greatly increases how fast the characters level their jobs and makes it much easier to actually level jobs to get where you want to be. Move +1 is also a good squire skill to get. This is a little gamey, but I've always found that it's kind of painfully slow to level characters through the jobs without JP Up.
