I don't know how this would work. If a tile with a stone is impassable. How Can you mine more than one layer at once?

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

If a wall is constructed of anything, albeit rock or block, wood or ice, it will always be smooth.
Nope, walls constructed from rock blocks are smooth walls, walls constructed from rock boulders are rough walls, ice is always rough (unless natural), walls constructed from logs are neither smooth nor rough, they are just "wood name here" walls.

Isn't it weird that building stuff out of soap requires masonry? It would be cool if it could be a no labor job so that children/nobles could do it, would give my kids something useful to do + not distract my masons.

Building stuff with blocks is also faster than with rough rocks. As far as bridges go, it's about 1/4th the time to build a bridge with blocks.

*snip*

Dwarves arbitrarily fill stockpiles from the right to left and bottom to top. Dwarves place items by...yeah, they do need changes.
Odd, most of my stockpiles get filled top to bottom, left to right.

stockpile filling sequence depends on the corners you began/ended the designation with I believe.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

I think stone is going to get harder to store, not easier.  I'm sort of hoping that toady's "changing how mining works" will mean making a tile full of stone impassable, so that to dig a hole you have to put the contents somewhere.  This will make minecarts or wheelbarrows absolutely necessary for digging a fortress, to transport stone and rubble from the mines to the tailings heap.

That would mean a change to how items in general work, I'd really hope he puts more time into it than just making it really awkward to move stone...

in my experience always left to right

and stone stockpiles based on the free place the stone is closest to, same for lumber, disregarding actual pathing

It would make sense that they're based on how you designated the stockpile, I always designate them in that direction.

I don't. On one floor I usually have a 30x30 stone x2 on top, left down a 30x30 food/booze, no seeds or meals and down right a misc stockpile. The way they are designated varies, the way they are stocked never.

If stone winds up partially impeding movement, what you're going to see (what I'm going to do) is rings of stone stockpiles around the entrances of forts, to make it easier for marksdwarves to pick off hostiles.

If it fully impedes movement... oof. Hope migrants wind up coming at a slower pace then.

No you dont, one dwarf hauler will carry a bin/barrel, so he can do the work of 10 haulers in one.
