Although it would be awesome, that's a stupidly unrealistic idea, a calculator has nowhere near the power needed to run something else than basic games. Dwarf Fortress isn't a basic game.

Next up would be a "pixelated" tileset to more closely simulate the calculator screen.

My only problem with both the concept of making a calculator version as well as the color reduction for this version is that it will make the game much more difficult to play, since it's harder to tell some things apart. I mean, is that magma or water or just a bundle of sand?

You will want to use the 'k' button a lot.

Edit: I am still amazed at what Google can do with a simple search:

Only in one post was it ever mentioned that you all were talking about TI. TI has alot of abilities and, in my opinion, has the potential to run a liteware version of DF. My idea, sorry Hubris.

So, um, Dwarf Fortress running on a calculator... within Dwarf Fortress? Epic.

To run DF you need, among other things, an Intel 386 compatible CPU. Or maybe a virtual machine emulating one. A calculator has either an ARM or something by Texas Instruments, so there is no way DF will run there. Even tablets have ARMs (and Linux) and can't run DF. The smallest thing that will work, albeit slowly, is an Atom or Brazos notebook.

Wasn't there a thread several weeks ago about somebody who got Dwarf Fortress running on their iWhatever?

I don't think I've ever seen one where they were actually running DF on their iWhatever. I've seen several where they were playing it on their iWhatever by dialing in over the net to their actual computer though.

is there any way to make DF arm processor compatible?  Something like a Samsung Galaxy s3 has a quad core arm which I'm pretty sure would be able to run a lite DF. I don't know too much about processor architecture though so iI don't know just how hard abtask this would be :P

In theory, couldn't you make a really dumbed-down version of dwarf fortress that might work on a calculator? This would be more like making a another game, but I could still see it being enjoyable to play.
