I eventually plan on getting myself an ultimaker, which is supposed to be hell fast and of a better quality than the others.

seeing as how I already work in 3d design, I got that part done with already.

I'm fascinated with 3D printers, might look into one some day when I have the money (that was a joke / ha ha fat chance).

I'd like to use them to make custom Halloween costumes. Something relatively simple like a mecha suit (mostly geometric shapes, with subtractions to fit a body scan).

You can get very powerful kit for about $800, and I've seen cheaper ones too.

you can get a prusa pretty reasonably if you source your parts and if you're smart about it. however most people who source their parts often end up buying upgrades and new parts because they buy a cheaper option (or a more convineient local option in my case) which works... but doesn't quite cut it.
I brought new motors a few weeks ago and it's become so much more reliable.
