Actually, I'm not going to do the colorless deck. I'm going to do some mono-white. Now just to figure out what...



Back in my day (I first started playing in like the mid-90s) I can't even picture a mono-white deck working with those cards. It was just too passive.

My friend has a white deck right now that basically can't lose. It did once...when he drew an opening hand with no lands...and it was a close game. It's based on a couple small white creatures with abilities, Daily Regimen, Armored Ascension, Pentarch Ward and well...those are the main things. He pretty quickly has an unstoppable and humungous creature, a few turns in.

EDIT: though I'm willing to debate on... certain unsavory facets of card production. Like the creation of mythic rares driving up the price of a good deck to ludicrous levels through artificial scarcity.

The Magic secondary market is so completely incapable of having proper supply and demand. If you price a card below anyone else, you sell out of the 50 you have and then there's still a demand for thousands more of that card. The supply cannot keep up with the demand unless everyone prices themselves about the same.

StarCityGames really sets the prices. They're the only people big enough to have an effect on the price of a card. And even they aren't that powerful - if their prices are too far below the perceived price of the card they sell out in minutes and there's still a huge gap to fill.

And it doesn't help that there's also speculatory pricing. When a set hasn't even been released yet, people just price the preorders for cards that are perceived to be the best in the set at outlandish prices, and they have to work their way down from there.

Let me guess, it includes four Kor Spiritdancers, right?

By Armok, do I hate that card. It's so goddamn ridiculous. One of my friends runs a mono-white aura deck with this as the star, and it's not too uncommon that he winds up with an 8/10 with first strike, lifelink, and vigilance on turn three. Not to mention that one of those auras is a totem armor, which means you'd need at least two removals to get rid of it.

One of the keystones of the deck is Mistmeadow Skulk, which at least makes that a lot more difficult, and then the Pentarch Wards are also key for making the damn thing invincible.

He has a similar green/hybrid deck based around Slippery Bogle, which has the horrifyingly OP ability "Hexproof" - it can't be targeted by anything from any of your opponents!

I picked up a few packs of Innistrad a while back and got "Invisible Stalker" which only costs 2 mana for a 1/1, unblockable, hexproof...a creature that's literally unstoppable except by mass removal and you can stack however many enchantments on there...disgusting really.

Hexproof is good, but I don't usually consider it OP on its own.

I;ve thought for a while and I think I'm going to do a protection deck but I have no idea what cards are going to go in yet except for Faith's shield.

Remember that the rules for Totems specify that if the enchanted thing would be destroyed, instead all the damage is removed from it and the totem is destroyed instead. This doesn't do anything to -1/-1's, so they burn on through all of them and the creature dies regardless.

Just remember to keep land open to cast it in response if he's about to throw something that'll give it protection from Black. All of those are dime a piece or less cheap.

Honestly, I don't think it's really much worse than Whispersilk Cloak. That thing makes the critter it's attached to unblockable and untargetable, and fits in any color deck. Fun with stuff like Infect, Phage the Untouchable, or Wanderwine Prophets. You can even enchant/equip your creature, so long as you apply the Cloak last.

Maybe I'm just desensitized to ridiculousness these days.

Being beaten to death by a deck with no creatures whatsoever, and consistently at that, is ridiculous. Enchantments and hard to remove creatures just seem tame by comparison.

Go on MTG:O, face anyone with a Burning Vengeance deck. You wouldn't think they'd be as hard to beat as they are.

Ahhhh burning vengeance...

At my school, there's an after-school magic club.
The teacher who runs it is amazing at MAgic. In one of the matches, I was playing my friend's deck (and he is also great at the game and and regularly stomps us) and got gloriously owned by a five color deck, made to work in the most beautiful day with quick land searching (i.e. that turn 1 suspend land search) and other stuff so he had all five colors out when he needed them, played fusion elemental, exploding borders, etc.

I love running blue/black decks. Lots of spells and general shenanigans.

I had one game where I simply destroyed my opponents lands and whenever he would attack, I could either send his units to the graveyard or bring mine back. God, capsize was fun. Especially when you got 3 of them and basically had an unlimited pool of them.

EDIT: Choking Sands is also extremely diabolical. Simple, yet devastating.

I wasn't into Magic was the original Ravnica came out, so I can't see what everyone's so excited about. I mean, like literally everyone on the official forums were crying and wailing for a Return to Ravnica without end, so I'm sure it must be awesome, but from what I can see it was just a bunch of warring guilds and multicolored cards.

I realized the other day that I was starting to get seriously fed up with the whole innistrad block and subsequently longing for the next block and theorizing what it would be and oh my god oh my god ravnica eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

I think Ravnica is probably my favorite set of all time, and that's despite my first magic experience starting right after it with Coldsnap and Time Spiral. Here's hoping that the Boros will at least return with a decent soldier lord, as the soldier tribe has been seriously shafted in modern compared to every single other major tribe.
