Yah, tying these bundles to some other service seems silly to me. I like gamersgate though - because I did IGN Prime trial, I got a permanent 15 percent discount on all games there, and the 'coins' thing is nice if you buy a lot of games - more games free! They also install without some client so that's nice.

Regarding hemmingjay. I gave hemmingjay the keys to promote the bundle beforehand :D pretty nifty huh?

In any case, Alex Poysky here, I'm the Partner/Manager of the Indiefort bundle, any questions or comments can be directed to @alexpoysky. also here is a short bullet list of the neat things that makes our bundle unique!

-6 games for 6 dollars, with an option to pay more.

.ABSOLUTELY transparant system, gamersgate, marketting, and I take 30 %, while the devs take 70 %, but this isn't all, ANY MONETARY VALUE SET ABOVE 6 DOLLARS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE DEVS, yes, you heard it, we are giving the devs 100% of anything over 6 dollars, why? Because they deserve it more than we do!

-PERKS, at certain intervals there are unlockable perks that will give the players such great things as sound tracks, official game betas, and at 50 thousand sales, a few of the devs will release their next games FREE to those who give more than the minimum!

Here is a short muck up of the site, as well as a video made by none other than PaulSoarsJr, of minecraft fame!

my twitter is @alexpoysky if you wish to follow the entire affair!

Alex, you are a godsend :) Your name keeps popping up everywhere, and always on awesome stuff! Now I wish there was an option to send YOU specific amounts of money while purchasing this! I was trying to avoid yet another online game system, but heck, this is worth it.

All the best to you!

Thanks for the headsup, Petrell.. great deal all around.

I can attest to how much fun Devil Whiskey is.. if you liked the old Wizardry or Bard's Tales, then you'll enjoy DW.
There are some excellent mods to booty.

A few people mentioned this being tied to GamersGate [never heard of it before now, to be honest]... how 'required' is GG? Like, is it just for download, or does it have to be running to play, etc.

Also, to anybody that's gotten it... can they be transferred to other people, if you already have some of them?

I was right, Hemmingjay is involved in the conspiracy.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Damn, you're on to me!

Anyway, everyone should buy this bundle if they don't have Kenshi or Devil Whiskey in particular. The amount of gameplay in those is staggering! Not to mention Devil Whiskey's own Decklin is here and making himself available to our questions.

Dumb question here: I assume this is windows-only?

Well, it works pretty much like in any Digital Download store. First you need an account in the store then you buy stuff thru their store and what ever you buy goes into your account. GamersGate has no client but when you download something you receive small downloader program specific to the game and you use it to download the game. When finished it autolauches the installer and after game install you are given option to either delete or keep the installation files (this encrypts the setup.exe of the program and you need to use downloader application to decrypt it. There IS however way to keep unencrypted setup.exe and that's simply either copying the file in question somewhere else when the installer pops up or copying the entire folder so you'll have fully functioning backup. This must be done before you proceed with installation as, like I mentioned, setup.exe is encrypted at end of the process.)

Also, to anybody that's gotten it... can they be transferred to other people, if you already have some of them?

You can gift entire or parts of your purchase as soon as transaction completes but GG is (I believe) unique in that it lets you gift any product even after purchase as long as you haven't started download or revealed serial key. Just go to your game library, select a game and press gift. Note that gifted goods can't be regifted even if seriel is still hidden and download hasn't been started. Also, obviously, the receiver also needs to create account in GG or have existing one to redeem the gift.

here's quote from GG:
Quote
About gifting games
You can gift any purchased game, immediately after the order is completed. Select which games you want to give away and click the ~Gift selected~ button. Games can be gifted to either one of your GamersGate buddies or a friend through an e-mailed gift card.

Please note that it is only possible to gift games when you have not yet started downloading the game and you have not clicked the ~Show serial key~ button to receive a serial key.

Hopefully that helps.

Dumb question here: I assume this is windows-only?

Other than Cardinal Quest that has optional Linux download option, the pack is Windows only.

While does GG sell Mac games none of the games in the bundle offer mac versions in store. If Mac version of game exist you actually often get both windows and mac version (I have few, mostly indies though). When you get both in purchasse you can gift other and keep the one you want but I don't know how serials work in these cases (wether or not the two versions get the same or unique serial) as I've never tried to gift any of my mac versions.

"Devil Whiskey" sounds like some drink involving a ghost pepper garnish.

Thankfully, it doesn't taste like that ;)

The introductory video  on the IndieFort page has a few minutes of each game, including The Devil Whiskey.  We're hopeful there will be some longer videos available soon.

The "Small" part is sort of what I"m worried about. Granted, there's reasons to fear giant corporations *cough valve* *cough origin* But how do I know GG will be around in 5 or 10 years? It was forever before I actually had anything on my steam list besides halflife 2. Maybe I"m a bit outdated in this era, but I'm still hesitant about not having a hard copy of something. (Yes I could burn my own cds, but for some reason, home burned cds never last long for me. cheap media or drive, I don't know, but most of my backups from 10 years ago are unusable at this point even if my commercial cds which are older are still fine.)

Yeah, there is that risk and it took me a little while to get into the whole 'digital' games but I'm pretty confident that these companies and games aren't going anywhere.

That said, lets say that both Steam and Gamers Gate and GoG and all those vanish tomorrow taking with them all the games I purchased.  I still got tons of games at a fraction of the price as it would cost to buy them traditionally from a store.  I rarely pay full price for a game on either service.  Obviously any amount paid for games that disappear is wasted money, but at the same time if you are like me you buy games that you enjoy but are unlikely to go back to.  I mean I still have my CD for Diablo sitting downstairs somewhere but I've never played it again in any serious way.

So yea, basically your choices are:

1) Use digital download type sites and get access to various indie titles that you have no other way of getting and getting games for a fraction of the price as they cost for a physical copy (assuming you wait for sales, which between the various sites are almost always on), but the cost is the slight risk that the companies may go out of business and you'll lose everything.

2) Buy games traditionally (brick and mortar stores, online retailers, used copies, etc), lose access to many indie titles and even if you get lucky on used titles probably still spending far more than you would using digital services (heck the shipping alone for a game is probably as much or more than I spend on my average steam game).

Neither side is 'perfect' but one will definitely cost me a lot more money in the here and now where as the other may cost me more money at some point in the future and by then I may not even care about most of the game(s) in question anymore.
