A DRAGON! FIRE HELP AAAAH IT BURNSSS....
« on: April 05, 2012, 05:49:12 am »

So I got my first dragon arriving today. My trusty military killed it but unfortunately they ran back burning setting fire to random things in the fort and it just keeps spreading! How do I deal with the fire?

Fire cannot travel beteen z-levels, unless you get burning stuff (in your case), my advice would be to burrow all burning dwarfs outside and put the suvivors somewhere save until the burning stops. Or just laugh manicly as everythin turns inty a firery torrent. Your choise.

It settled down, except for outside where the jungle is an inferno.

I forbade all items both on the burning levels and the the dwarves dying plus outside ofc. Also I restricted the areas that were burning just incase the dwarves decided it was reasonable to walk on those levels anyway. Once the fire had settled down though I restarted the training on the military. Several of them died (bleeding) while training instead of going to the hospital which was really annoying, stupid dwarves not getting into my hospital. It had several beds to get to and I got fresh water, cloth, thread and everything but nooo. Grrr.

Luckily the entrance level had several doors in it made of stones that stopped the fire, unluckily it burned away all the cages in the cagetraps and the trees outside are probably not the safest to try to get atm. Oh well, anything invading me now will burn away in the fire outside and I still got some dwarves in steel armor around.

First real fire Ive had.

I'm jealous.  I've never had my military dwarves catch fire while fighting a dragon.

This. Although most of them are naked until I think they're worthy for armor.

My last experience with a dragon was me taming it, then I released it into the fortress.

It was still hostile, and it proceeded to set fire to my fortress.

As I modded my dragons to be fliers, have wings, be sentient, talking beasts and have scales roughly as tough as iron... I abandoned.

Was it named Smaug by any chance?

Half of all my dwarves in my military bled to death. For some reason they started bleeding when they got to the barracks and died before getting carried down to the hospital or getting there themselves. Perhaps they didnt use the training axes and used the steel ones instead... I suspended the training for now.

Also the human merchants on the trading post that arrived left almost the second they had started unpacking thier goods for some reason. Perhaps it was that 4 dwarves bled to death just 8 clicks away. Im not sure why just yet. I didnt know you could scare them away If thats what I did. The broker was ready and everything.

Im confused about those two behaviors, any ideas?

Obraz Sadronux, one brave dwarf which apparently had no weapon actually grappled him before dying. He was the only one without a iron or steel axe though. Lets hope someone engraves his fight.

No, neither was it named Fafnir, Nidhogg, Vermithrax or anything dragon. It had a quite badass name though if I remember correctly.

Mostly because I modded the spheres of dragons from fire and wealth to fire, war, wealth, strength and victory.

Also the human merchants on the trading post that arrived left almost the second they had started unpacking thier goods for some reason. Perhaps it was that 4 dwarves bled to death just 8 clicks away.

I don't think i've ever observed trader fear due to death in DF. However, some of their items, animals or even a trader might have been damaged by fire, and then they might leave.

yeah, they get angry if a trader dies. Or they're such a large caravan that by the time they have unpacked, it's time to leave again.
