Gentlemen! I Bring you....
« on: April 05, 2012, 01:27:12 am »

A challenge. Props to the people who got the MM reference, but here goes:
Let's build Hogwarts.
Each "house" must have fifteen stories in it, made soully from house-colours stones, and be guarded by house-only animals, mods allowed, ie. Giant Ravens or Fire Badgers. There should be a teacher's block, Hagrid's Cottage and a large lake where a giant squid or merfolk live.  But these are just examples, gentlemen. Make your Hogwarts any old how, make it how YOU think Uristwarts should look. Any takers?

I came hoping for something hard.

I found something beyond dwarven intelligence.

Beyond dwarven intelligence? What a terribly elven thing to say. It's more than possible. In fact - I bet it could be accomplished without mods. I may try it myself, though, granted, I never read the books, nor saw all the movies...

Only elves say "it can't be done." ;D

I've made blasted, cratered wastelands before. It's not that hard. Heck, some of my more powerful defensive mechanisms have "made Uristwarts" as an unintended side effect! I've even encountered instances of my vision of the perfect Hogwarts premade by the world generation process - just embark on perfectly flat rocky wasteland maps, and there you are! :P

Pitchblende and rutile. You could also use black bronze or glumprong wood.

Its a complicated and beautiful work of architecture.

A dwarf cant build a wall correctly.

Then I don't see why it would be harder than any other megaconstruction.

It is going to be hard, as there may be a problem with aquiring stones.
It is going to be hard, as it requires preferably flat amount of space.
It is going to be very fucking hard, as you will have to find a way to involve magma.

I have it!
In the centre of each house, there must be the shape of the house's animal in magma on the floor.

you know, the outside of the house towers weren't built with colored stones, the insides were colored.  With mods allowed you could put in reactions that make furniture/blocks of the color you want.  Modding in the right creatures would be a lot of work too.  And embarking on a good/savage ocean for merfolk and capturing them to add to an artificial lake would be a lot of work.

Don't forget an owlery with barn owls, and tame vermin rats/frogs for all your citizens.  Vaulted ceilings everywhere.  secret passages.  forbidden forest w/ unicorns and preferably giant spiders and centaurs.  Underground tunnel to nearby hogsmede.

No, don't plan on doing this at all.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

If I were to do this, I wouldn't have dwarves guarded by house animals. Guard animals are for the weak, pitiful children with naught even peach fuzz on their chins.

Instead, they will wear clothing made from every other house's animal, and bone spears and armour to match.

effective military? Nope. Civil-war inducing? maybe.
Tonight, Uristwarts burns.

Urist McPotmaker cancels Civil war: Not that bloody stupid.

Dammit.

Dude, that can be interpreted in so many ways. Most of them "wrong".
