Um, actually more effective than you might think... Go on adventurer mode with an archer-dwarf/human/whatever and find a necro tower.

Well seeing as anything hitting it seperates a body part, arrows can cut a zombie in half, plus you can shoot past a zombie to kill the necromancer.

1. Shoot a zombie. More often than not, you'll get arrows getting lodged in wounds, maybe a collapsing zombie or two, but unless you're hitting teeth you won't see severed body parts.
2. Pretty interesting arrows then. Never seen this happen before.
3. Zombies will always get in the way. There are usually more than 3 necromancers in one room alone, and shooting from a bow leaves you vulnerable until you reload, making you lose the speed advantage you have over the zombies.
4. Doesn't maim the zombies, leaving behind a neat corpse eligible for more zombification, with almost no damage.
5. If the arrow does get lodged in the zombie, it gives it a weapon.

Hm, for me it kept on severing the zombie in half / decapitating it. Plus I'm talking about snipering the necro from outside the tower.

through the door which I burnt down, one necro on that floor, the other two were upstairs (highest floor)

There were only three?

How did you shoot through the walls?

I lined up flammable items next to a tree (about 5 pieces of clothing in a straight line to get NEAR the tree), set the tree alight, the fire slowly burned toward the door and the door burned down, (I slept 6 hours, when I woke up half of the zombies had burns) and I shot through the door to hit the necromancer.

Buildings don't burn down in adventure mode, you can't sleep near towers, fire doesn't spread in adventure mode and how would you know there were two other necro's in the upper level without clearing the first floor - there's a hatch blocking line of sight to the other levels.

Wooden doors DO burn down in adventure mode, fire DOES spread in adventure mode, I cleared the first floor, and then the tower, counting the necros.

I read burning was ineffective against the dead. Is this true? Or is it effective for it lights the zeds, kills the necros (only human), and burns the unanimated zed corpses?

It shouldn't do anything to the undead, the only thing is seperating them from the brain.
