Have you ever been saved by what was suppost to kill you?

IT happens more then you think, I once had a elf ambush save me from a goblin siege. Gotta love elves....

So, anything like that ever happened to you?

I had a few ogres hanging around the map decided they didn't like a goblin thief. That's about it.

Had a dark strangler siege come along right after an undead siege did. My soldiers couldn't take out the undead, since the necromancers could raise them faster than they died, but the stranglers didn't have that problem. And my soldiers could take out a strangler siege. It didn't really save me, since I had a drawbridge, but it did let me reopen my fort again much faster.

Bear chased me but later saved me from night creature. Then I smashed the bear in the mouth and threw it with its teeth until it bled to death.

Had a magma related accident once while a FB with syndrome blood was attacking in the lower parts of the fort. This saved my fort quite well.

Got zombie+goblin ambush relatively early, goblins killed enough zombies for my militia to handle the rest and then went off map.

Had a goblin siege of like 5 squads, then 'The Dead Have Arrived' and killed all the goblins, then I just sent out some rando lasher and he killed all the undead+necros.

I had a hydra walk right into a cloaked ambush group way back when I started this game and wasn't really familiar with defense concepts.

A minotaur showed up at map edge. They seem to have great eyesight. "Curses, an ambush!" x 6, "A snatcher! Protect the children!" x5.

I was keeping my population low, so no sieges, but the ambushes were getting insane in number and strength. I Only just managed to get everyone inside and then started watching with interest what would happen. Well, the minotaur got to a cage trap first, then the goblins followed and were trapped/chopped/crunched/spiked. Pity, it would have been interesting to see who would've won that battle.

A contact dust syndrome epidemic got quarantined and sterilised by a goblin siege. (The gobbos killed the carriers and let me forbid everything in those regions)

Everything that tries to kill me either succeeds or fails.

Still, there was this time in badger county, where dozens of badgers defended me against bogeymen.

Except for goblins killing zombies and vice versa the best example I can think of is when a forgotten beast was murdering its way through my fortress and my only way of stopping it was unleashing the zombie horde I had trapped in a room through mass pitting earlier.

It worked but then my fort collapsed to a tantrum spiral from all the losses and miasma.

I'm still stumped from reading how an elf ambush beat a goblin siege. Where the gobbos armed and armored only with loincloths or what?
