You don't seem to understand the system of "completely arbitrary" and "I don't care about lowly commoners".  If they make a good artifact weapon, that makes sense that you'd like them.  The system cannot make sense!  Alphabet doesn't work very well either, as it can result in shifting structure and uncertainty.  This is also not 1984 in any way shape or form.  You people hopped on that idea, and I don't have any intent to perform it at all.

Although, on that note, I would say that your attitude is all wrong.  The peasants may have privacy.  Why?  Because they're buried under 10 layers of solid stone with armed guard wild giant badgers keeping them apart.  They can do whatever the hell they want in their pit.  Let them breed indiscriminate, fight amongst themselves, tantrum, let the vampires feed aplenty and the pit fall into the disarray of werebeasts and deep terrors.  I really don't care what happens in the pit.

Current idea is that the noble caste will be unmarried female dwarves with a preference for copper alloy metals, with purity of copper determining their nobility ranking.  Those who love copper become the highest, those you love rose gold and sterling silver, a bit less.  Bronze is fairly high.  Electrum gets you the pit.

I've been planning something like this as well. I was thinking of just putting castes directly into the raws and letting the game decide who goes where. Interestingly enough, castes would be nonhereditary.

New idea: make it a true matriarchy: the more children you have, the higher your caste.

Where are you going to get enough unmarried female Dwarves to select from?  *puzzled look*

Keep us posted on how it is working out.   :)

What about if you decided to rank dwarves based on their positive or negative social and physical traits?

Weakest dwarves with poorest spatial senses would, of course, be the high nobility.
