Read up the thread if you want to learn about the Shadowrun video game titles that didn't suck and are the basis for this new game.

By the by, I asked several weeks ago whether Shadowrun Returns will be in X-Com style isometric, or classic top-down 2d like the Sega Shadowrun.

HBS got back to me today, to say they're still internally debating which one to do.

If it were realtime, Genesis-style 2D would serve it better. Since it's turn-based though, X-Com style isometric would likely be best. Maximum capacity for art, little enough rush to appreciate it all instead of running into it.

Yeah, I went back and listened to all the SNES and SEGA Shadowrun music. With a couple exceptions, it's all as good as I remember it being.

I still get the SNES club music stuck in my head <3

Like all the time, and I haven't played it in a decade~

Howdy gang!

Impressive push! Go, go, go!

There's some cool tweeting going on out there! Wil Wheaton gave us a shout out and we see folks tweeting Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion and Ice-T too.

Anyone contacted Jimmy Fallon yet? Jordan should do a happy dance on his show. (Jordan is at the park with his dogs and doesn't know we're posting this, BTW. He also can't dance.)

With just 12 hours left to go, we thought you'd want to know two important pieces of information:

     1. Our PayPal Backers total is at $52,969 as of this Update

     2. We're going to post our final Kickstarter update video at 12:30am PST

We hope you stop by to countdown until midnight, hang out, and watch together!

Until then, please continue being awesome.

HBS

Now even the celebrity geeks are getting excited :P

I put in some extra hours at work, and got to the backing level I wanted.  I am happy.

Final Funded Total: $1,895,772

They've gotten forums up at Shadowrun.com and they'll be getting in touch with backers through (what sounds like) Kickstarter about the second city survey and lewt and such.

Now to settle in for a long wait.

On a semi-related note I went back to Shadowrun for the SNES...turns out there's about 25% of the game I missed, including equipping and managing Shadowrunners. So I take back a few of the things I said about it, it's a bit less linear than I originally thought. There's actually some room to play it different ways.

Backers are probably already aware through their email, but, the Second City poll was posted today. Hong Kong, last it was updated, is dominating the other selections, with Berlin in a close second. There's also a selection for Moar Seattle if that's how you want to roll. It's near 3rd I believe. Surprisingly, to me, Chicago and Denver are getting squashed.

Check your emails, because you get a unique link to the polling page.

Either one isn't a bad choice.  I thought I donated to this, but I guess I didn't donate enough or something, I didn't get an email.  Is Dallas on the list?  Nobody ever mentions Dallas, and it's the most cyberpunk dystopia looking city in America.  They filmed Robocop in Dallas for shit's sake.

No Dallas. I wonder if this speaks to the popularity of Shadowrun outside the US, or if people who enjoy Shadowrun are just sick of American settings.

They are going by the canonical nature of those cities.

Hong Kong looks awesome by the way they describe it in the poll.  Lots of stuff for my shaman to do, lots of good shrinepunk, a good inner city, and dragons.  Chicago and Denver both looked like "Ugh, more tunnels and sewers" to me.  Also, if you've seen one insect-spirit you've seen them all, and ugly insect enemies in grungy run-down locations are a /little/ overdone in games.

Also, if you read the email, their software only lets them send out voting emails so fast.  I haven't seen mine yet, and I donated at what is most certainly a high enough level even if there is a gate.

Mine was waiting for me when I got into work this morning.

I read Denver a totally different way (having no knowledge of the source material.) I read walled city-states and lots of opportunities for smuggling and thought "man, that would make for some cool runs." And you know, there's Ghostwalker.
