$1,260,310

HBS speaks on the backer-only mission. If they reach $1.5 million, the special mission will be available only to backers for a limited time. After that point, the mission will become available to anyone who has bought the game.

I'm curious about the ongoing support they'll provide.  Bugfixes, new DLC...  I mean clearly this is a labor of love, but also a well-funded one.  $1.5m would keep a team of fifteen people very well funded for a year from the Kickstart alone, and then there's the sales afterwards.  Will they reinvest those sales into ongoing support?  Presumably a lot of it will go into the community website, but not all of it.

I think the bigger question is, how many people will buy Shadowrun outside of fans who have already donated? Its ability to capture a new generation's imagination (or at least provide them a satisfying turn-based RPG experience) is going to dictate what future support there is. Given the setting and the format, I think they're going to do exceedingly well once some demonstrable game starts getting shown around.

HBS is going in on a Shadowrun Universe website with the makers of the Shadowrun Online game, and the publishers of the Shadowrun table top game. It's being funded with non-Kickstarter funds. So while it may just be a desire to give fans of Shadowrun an official place to congregate....to me it seems like the first stage of trying to re-launch the brand as a whole. Time will tell.

It needs it.  They've been driving the setting into the ground.  It started out awesome and then turned into "Shadowrun is always set 60 years in the future, and it's just like today except sometimes people have cyberware or they are elves, and I guess they cast spells".

Cyberdecks were /cool/ and /themey/, but because real-world tech surpassed their physical capabilities, they got ruined and turned into smartphone-like jokes.  Corporations went from monolithic, scary Big Brothers that replaced the government, to monolithic, annoying things that accosted you in shopping malls.  Magic got boring.  A return to First Ed. means an acknowledgement that Shadowrun is a future that diverged from our own back in the 80s, and the world REALLY IS different.  It's more fantastic than just "hmm, let's predict the future but put elves and trolls and wizards in it".

Is it bad that I read a magic dedicated Shadowrun book of the latest addition and it in fact added nothing

It just moved stuff around.

I'm still a little eh on 4th ed. I've played 3 or 4 games of it, and while some systems are really streamlined now it...you kinda feel this meta framework over everything that they're still trying to rationalize. And magic, at least in the revised edition I was playing, seemed out of control in the hands of the right build.

I still hated that in order to use these mystical artifacts I collected as a magicial I had to spend EXP. (which if I lost, which is pathetically easy to... I had to respend it... and this wasn't cheap EXP or cheap money)

Even if that was to balance the game.

One of the few times I really had fun as a mage was when I was a race that could regenerate quickly.

$1,440,312!

Quote
There are only 4 days left in our Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter! 4 days!!!

The outpouring of support for this project has been phenomenal and we deeply appreciate all of your comments, suggestions, stories and encouragement.

One of the recurring themes in the stories we hear is how the music of the Sega and SNES Shadowrun games stays with you after all this time. Whenever we read your comments and whenever the team talks about it, the conversation always comes back to, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get the guys who wrote the original music?”

So we did.

Today, we’re incredibly excited to announce that Marshall Parker, who wrote the music for the Super Nintendo game and Sam Powell, who wrote the music for the Sega Genesis game, have agreed to COLLABORATE on the music for Shadowrun Returns.

Not only are we excited to have these two talented people working on the project, (we still can’t believe we got them!) we’re impressed by the spirit of cooperation they both expressed. Marshall and Sam really understand what we’re trying to do here and it was a pleasure to hear how happy they would be to work together to bring you the Shadowrun music your generous support deserves.

Speaking of what your support deserves, let’s talk about Rewards!

Check out the tasty DocWagon card concept art we added today!
We're sweetening the deal for our $30 Reward Level backers! In addition to everything they already get, they’ll also get the IN-GAME DocWagon benefit too!
A Reminder: Every backer at the $50 level and above gets their own copy of the SOUNDTRACK!
Reading through the comments about the Backer T-shirts, we see lots of fans for all three designs, so we’ve decided NOT to survey backers about which shirt back you want most. INSTEAD, backers at the $60.00 level and above get to choose which shirt they want!

But what if you still can’t decide? What if you want ALL 3 SHIRTS???

Then our NEW $175 Reward Level is for you! At $175, you get all previous rewards (excluding the All-Digital Bundle) + all 3 Shadowrun Returns Backer T-Shirts.

Did we mention that there are only 4 days left?!

That’s 4 days for you to help the Cause by spreading the word. There are still Shadowrun fans out there who don’t know about our Kickstarter. There are still gamers out there who would LOVE Shadowrun if only they knew about it! There are still people out there that don’t know we changed our $7,500 Reward Level to include a game of tabletop Shadowrun in our studio with Jordan and Mike Mulvihill!!!

This is a call to action, Chummer. Spread the word. Every dollar YOU bring in goes into making a better, richer, and deeper Shadowrun experience.

Share the link to our Kickstarter page via Facebook, Google +, Twitter, secret courier. . . Pinterest, whatever.
Share the link to the Shadowrun Primer and bring new people into the fold.
Use the “Shadowrun Kickstarter Backer” images on your blog, use them as your Facebook cover image, and share them on the internets. (You can find more images here.)
Tweet and RT your love. Use #shadowrunreturns so everyone can participate.
Use peer pressure (for the right reasons this time) to get your friends involved.

What’s in it for you? You’ll make Shadowrun Return.

Go, go, go!

And thanks,

HBS

4 days folks. Give 'til you bleed chummers! You ain't gonna need the extra pints when you're half cybernetic anyways!

Original devs, writers, content designers, artists and composers. The game is utterly theirs to fail at or make amazing. (As an aside, I remember a little game named Vanguard that was a lot of original devs who missed their swing trying to make "their baby.")

Not getting updates on this thread, I thought I had posted to follow. Apparently was wrong. Posting now.

This is such a post. Disregard.

Unless you like cookies. Oh yeah, I Kicked this a few weeks ago. There's almost no $15 Kickstarter game project I won't Kick. Kickstart. Whatever.

EDIT: Also, what's the IN-GAME Docwagon Benefit? Some sort of respawning/rescue/healing mechanic? You won't have it if you don't pay $30? Sounds important.

Oh I'm sure you'll be able to buy it in game. But I have no doubt it will be pricey there. It's a elite service to have in Shadowrun to begin with. In the PnP you pay a subscription to the service.

In the Sega video game, you were always rescued by Doc-Wagons as the anti-death mechanic. They'd take a chunk of your change for the privilege. I'm not sure how they're going to re-imagine it in Shadowrun Returns....but damn it'd be cool to see an armed extraction team roll into the middle of a fight!

The only Shadowrun I know is that recent shooter (#feelsbadman) which I don't really know, but this does sound kinda interesting.
