I think this is going to be a insta-purchase for me. I can't say I was 100% satisfied with Minecraft, but that certainly doesn't mean I wasnt satisfied at all. 15$ for 100+ hours of playing and counting surely is a good price for a game, and if this new one can pull that off too, wooohoo!

IIRC, only multiplayer's paid monthly. Forgot where I read that, or who I heard it from.

Correction; multiplayer may be a monthly fee, but singleplayer will be a one-time payment.

The cost of the game is still undecided, but it's likely there will be a monthly fee for joining the Multiverse as we are going to emulate all computers and physics even when players aren't logged in. Single player won't have any recurring fees.

You should read more.

Here lies the trick. It is obviously going to be a game BASED around being played multiplayer.

Quite possibly, but to an extent, so is Minecraft, and I have plenty of fun playing singleplayer :P

I have been thinking about the emulated computer in the game, would it be possible to creat AI for your ship ? Given enought time and effort.

If by AI you mean having the computer run the ship autonomously, Yes. That's (presumably) the entire point of having them.

I am still wondering how the heck he is going to pull off simulating the CPUs in the multiplayer part of the game. Either he is going to invest in some very serious servers, or there is going to be some very serious limitations on the usage of those CPUs.

Else some evil prick could pretty much DOS the whole server by filling a ship with CPUs and making them run in some endless loop doing pointless calculations.

Yes but expect a further multiplayer focus.

Afterall if you are going to stop people from running their own servers.

Hey, Notch is currently streaming the development of this game. So far he's just dragging around blocks and stuff.

Wha---

Do people actually WANT to watch 2-3 hour long videos of a screen of code?

Shit, that stuff drives me crazy enough when I'm the one doing the original staring-at-it.

People want to see him work his magic. Or just get glimpses of his progress. Not sure which one to be honest.

The guy who makes Cortex Command has done similar things. Kinda cool, actually.
