Notch just posted this on twitter

Markus Persson ‏ @notch

Looks like I will be able to get back to work next week. I will release the room editor with an integrated computer in it asap. #motivated

I enjoy Minecraft, with mods especially, but even vanilla has its appeal.  So Notch has some reputation at being a good developer, and now he's doing this with a team, not just starting solo.  I may have to look into this, although the initial descriptions haven't been very straightforward.  "It's a big space game" isn't descriptive.

I'll be buying this as soon as it's released on the cheap. It'll be good, I'm sure of it. Just have the usual annoying nuances like Minecraft does.

Reading more, I love the idea.  Set at the end of the universe is quite a unique timeframe.  But set at the end of the universe AND in the 80's?!  Just hope I can pick up how to program in 16 bit :P  Very likely to pick this up when it releases.

I just had a horrible, horrible epiphany... Eventually, we'll have minecraft coded into this game.

That isn't official, is it?

'made by 0x10c.gr community.'

Looks like something thrown together by fans.

Supposedly it's a guy with a DEEP. CLICHED VOICE. reading off lines FROM THE WEBSITE. In all seriousness I understand why a lot of people are looking forward to this game, but I predict nothing but disappointment.

Runaway indie fan hits do sometimes lead to disastrous future games, it's true.  Like Knytt/Within a Deep Forest, versus the terribly unmemorable game that followed it that we were so excited for.

Totally withholding judgment until it's closer to release though.  But hey...Either way it will sell like hotcakes.

Eh, Notch seems to be doing good on the indie scene.  He took his literal fortune off Minecraft, and he hired people.  He didn't go splurge it, he invested into a company so that he could do game development faster and better.  He's got some knowledge of how to handle things - namely he understands that he doesn't have knowledge, so he hired people who do.  I have more faith in this project than I do in other indie developments.

If we've learned anything from Minecraft, it's that Notch will develop a very interesting platform and then take the sandbox game and give it a piss-poor ending and roll credits.

At least the trailer isn't blatant hype that shows no gameplay.
MASSIVE
BLACKHOLES
DOMINATING
THE GALAXY

To be fair, go far enough in the future and black holes will indeed become the most common stellar object. There simply won't be enough hydrogen (and it will be spread too thinly) to form new stars.

At least, according to some "how the universe will end" theories.

So will we have actual, legit ship building tools? or is it all blocks and stuff? Looking at some screens it appears blocky, which is a disappointment (until shit gets massive)

Well, what did you think of Hazeron, and where do we have to go compared to that?

Man, I loved Hazeron's ship design. It's a bit like Aurora, except you can actually walk around inside it! If 0x10^c has a similar system, it would be a huge incentive for me to purchase it.

In any case, it certainly doesn't look like the shipbuilding is voxel-based or some such (I somehow thought Notch would just roll with voxels again), and since I remember Notch saying ships are build-able from scratch (someone correct me if I misheard) then I assume the only way would be a Hazeron-like grid with rooms and walls and such. Unless he goes with something a bit less flexible, with pre-shaped modular rooms of specific size that you connect together.
