Accidental grapeshotting of the dining room should be possible now.

Sure, accidental. That's what we'll tell the lawyer dwarves.

The only problem I can see is if a minecart gets loaded up with a year's worth of stonecrafts - somewhere between 2 and 4 metric craptons of useless stuff - and, on it's way to the trade depot it takes a corner too sharply.

You'll spend the next year picking the little buggers up.

No, they'll just grab a bunch of bins, and stand there picking tons up :D

In a fat-fingered moment while setting up another military squad I accidentally created a captain of the guard rather than a militia captain.  His squad of near-legendary hammerdwarves equipped with high quality silver hammers then took it upon themselves to dispense justice to all the mandate breakers in the fortress.  It was quite messy.

I suspect with catapults using the new arcing trajectories, they might become quite deadly due boulders landing on the target's head instead of just hitting the front of them.

The items and units fly out of carts now on major collisions. It gives the objects a little lift and spread sometimes to make the happenings more entertaining. Accidental grapeshotting of the dining room should be possible now. The debug tests on massed goblins were fairly devastating and left a large conical skidmark.

Haha.  Ahahahaahah. HAHAHAHAHAH. MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So, instead of an accurate railgun that can only target a row of idiots, we get dwarven equivalents to Wave Motion Cannons? Oh hells yeah.

The coins would be amazing if the stacks of 500 coins split up into individual pieces when they hit the ground. I really hope that happens. Would be like a giant shotgun. Otherwise you'd just get one stack of 500 coins hitting someone in the face... which could still be funny.

Giant trap components and ballistas flying out?  Awesome.

I just got the image of a minecart suddenly stopping at the trade depot and thousands of stone crafts and gem encrusted gems ripping the elves to shreds.

I'm debating the best ammo myself.  I suppose it depends on how stacks work.  On the one hand, stacks of coins would provide ludicrous shotgun effects if they unstack.  But if a stack of coins is one item, then you just get one projectile.  Same with bolts.  If it's whole-stack launch, then I'd probably go with spears or disks, or crafts.

Of course ultimately you are faced with the truth.  You will end up loading your dwarven shotguns with that which is most plentiful in your fort.

Corpses.

I wonder if bodies and body parts in a cart will animate if the cart goes through an evil biome?

I wonder if they'll explode on impact and the dwarves will reload them as a pile of disjointed limbs?

Also, post a necromancer conveniently and achieve ultimate corpse throwing hilarity.

What about fluids?
Burning animated limbs combined with a spray of hot magma.

I'm debating the proper setup to launch flaming projectiles.  Chances are they'd give no better damage than normal, but it's still fairly epic idea.

In terms of damage, I'm more interested in the potential spray of magma.
Even if the magma just winds up dumping out wherever the cart spills it's contents, that could still result in a fair bit of flaming fun.  Especially if you can reliably set up mid-air collisions.  Mix water and magma carts in a mass of mid-air collisions and watch the !!FUN!! unfold.

Im assuming that the grapeshotting means that items launched from carts do damage now.

the question being how throwing damage is calculated.
whats the difference between a spear hitting somthing and a rock?
will the spear actually do the stab attack?
because if so, firing carts filled of either trapcomponends or spears is probably the best bet, if not, either stuff like boulders or gems.
of course, bins must be taken into accound as if a bit causes everything in it to spill, over 9000 stone crafts strike the goblin in the everything!
the goblin resembles a pile of raw steak!
