[Community Input] Tell me what to do fortress.

So, being bored and unable to get into a new fortress since the update, I have devised a plan. A devious plan.

Basically, you (the COMMUNITY) tell me what to do. Some form of challenge, a megaproject, suggestions of playstyles. This will not only help me, but anyone else looking for heaps of suggestions. Anything from embark specifications, world gen specifications or just general science. I will attempt everything I can fit into certain periods of time and will document with pictures (unless I forget). I am to learn a lot of new things, have some form of challenge to my daily playing and well, complete science others may not want to attempt. I may also upload saves before and after each project.

Good idea? Bad idea?

First order of business: Embark area (World gen too? If you want). Should I embark on an aquifer? Glacier? Ocean?

Embark on a veeery small island with water on at least 3 sides.

Emark on a freezing evil aquifer island with nothing but 2 axes and 2 picks.

Embark in an evil biome, create a strong military, try to wipe out the undead menace without using traps or such, just raw military grit.

So yeah, a paladin/crusader fort essentially.  You can dorf us as knights of the Order of Armok or something.

I'll get right to that! I've done some modifications to world gen parameters to make the world deeper (personal preference) and I'll find a nice evil biome to check into.

This is the embark as of now. What kind of things should I bring? I have the embark points set to 3000 and forgot to change them to the usual... so you can choose to go with the normal amount of points (~2700?) or just the 3000.

Miner, two woodcutter/carptender, a farmer, and the rest are soldiers.

3 shortswords and 3 breastplates.


40 wood, you need barricades

30 extra brew and food, incase your trapped inside.

Novice fighter on everyone.

No animals, they will just get owned and become zombies.

Dig 3 xlevels down and make tunnels all over the map so your army can strike the undead quickly.

Sounds like a good plan, maybe make guard towers around and such.

I figure I'll get a somewhat self sustaining fortress set up right away (farms and such) and suggestions?
