Shop Glitch?
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:40:39 pm »

In my adventure games, all the weapon, metalworking, leatherworking and armorsmithing shops are totally devoid of things to buy. I tried running a new world and encountered the same problem. Do any others have this same problem?

Is there a sign in front of the shop, or is it just an abandoned shop? If it's abandoned, I suspect a vampire lurks in the city.

There is a sign, shopkeepers, the whole shebang. Just no items. Full of empty tables.

Oh, I also have this weird issue where the zoom in function on the quest list doesn't work. I read you can press Z to get a more detailed view of the selected square, but it's done nothing for me so far but just zoom the cursor to the area I'm in.

The zoom thing is just put on hold for now, no idea why. The shop may have a back room, so look for a door somewhere. I think this is just an empty shop. Maybe they do that because the armorsmiths didn't get a chance to make any armor or something? I dunno. A lot can happen in worldgen...

Yes, but it's happened with 3 different worlds now. And I've checked multiple shops in multiple towns on each one.

Huh. Well, you might as well check out the bugs section, see if it's there. I don't much know how to help you.

Searching the bug tracker shows that this is indeed a bug, and has been reported.
Issue #5149
Issue #5133
Issue #5611

The problem seems to be that civs tend to have lots and lots of bone and cloth material compared to, say, metal.  This means that bonecarving shops and clothing shops will be well stocked, but metalcrafters, weaponsmiths, and armorers will tend to have little or no stock, and may not even show up at all.

I think I only had one armorer shop in one world ever have any metal armor.  For the most part I go around from fort to fort and "borrow" equipment.  The quality is guaranteed to be better than shops, bandit camps, lairs, and underground tunnels in the city.

Armor or weapon shops are rarely ever stocked in the current version. And when they do they always seem to be chock full of no quality or -quality- items. You'd have better luck raiding human castles/forts store rooms or visiting an old fort of your own for equipment.

If adamantine is perfectly rigid, as shown by having 0 strain at fracture in the raw files, then the speed of sound in the metal approaches the speed of light. Adamantine musical instruments would produce ultrasonic vibrations, and cut off the fingers of the musician.

This is on the "Worst Bug Voting" thread, as well.

Bug #5611, which relates specifically to worldgen simply not making metal items, regardless of whether they were weapons for sale or just metal crafts and furniture is a bug you can vote for on that list.
