I haven't played for about a year...

Ahh, Dwarf Fortress...

It's been quite some time, but with all the new releases I want to get back into it. Last time I played, clay pots were new :P

What new wonderful features do I need to know of before heading onto my next journey?

Thanks guys!

In 34.07, animal training has been completely revamped.  This means that you can train all sorts of animals you can catch.  Theoretically, you can train dragons.  (Actually training dragons successfully is another matter.)

Terrifying biomes are actually terrifying now.  Heck, all evil biomes are pretty terrifying now.  If you embark in an evil biome, expect to die a lot until you figure out how evil biomes work now.  However, elven blood rain.

Necromancers and vampires and werecreatures, oh my!  (My favorite were so far:  Weremammoths.)

Dwarves can actually put on new clothing now.  However, if your dwarves are running around naked, they will have negative thoughts, possibly to the point of tantrum spirals.

Lots of new animals, animal men/women, etc.  Example:  Giant Peach-faced Lovebird Men.

To summarise:

New animals/animal people.
Various bug fixes with clothing not being worn, etc.
Dungeon Master replaced with training knowledge system for training PET_EXOTIC.
Necromancers can attack your fort, Vampires can hide among your citizens, Werecreatures which change at full moon, tombs have Mummies in them, Zombies and other undead are actual people.
Evil biomes can have evil weather.
New interaction system for what used to be breath attacks and such.
Large towns with shops and wall in Adventurer Mode, small villages now have more interesting buildings.
Sewers, Wells, Tombs, Towers, Catacombs, all sorts of FUN.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
