Knight Commander sounds like fun. Perhaps his father serves as a Regal Knight and Dietrich is working his way up.

Looks like there are a lot of ambitious Knight characters in the Knightdoms. I think claiming that stretch of land to the northwest of the Lorecht Knightdom might be a fun endeavour.

EDIT: I will add some relationships later on today to flesh out my character!

Name: Kalas Summerale
Country: Kalas is a Plainsman by birth, but lives near the imperial border and has a family history of imperial dealings.
Main Interest: Kalas is a breeder and a rancher, combining the Free People's link to nature with imperial efficiency to produce high quality mounts, pack animals, and livestock.

Relationships
 
Father (Deceased)- Dunlap was a Plainsman and the youngest of 9 sibblings. Deciding to seek his fortune elsewhere he left home at the age of 12 to cross the border and join the Imperial Forces. Dunlap spent 25 years with the Imperials, and although he never achieved a high military rank, retired with several honors and many Imperial friends. Young Kalas was born in the empire near the end of his fathers service and returned with his father to the homeland around the age of four. Growing bored of the simple life Dunlap returned to the Imperial Forces at the age of 40, but was struck by an arrow to the knee during his first battle back, and eventually died of infection.

Mother (Unknown) - Kalas never knew his mother, and his dad always quickly changed the subject when the boy brought it up. Kalas assumes that he is likely the son of some whore from Terrapolis, although he has heard some nasty rumors that his father preferred the company of men, and that as consequence he may be an adopted full blooded imperial. Kalas likes to dream that he is related to the Empress on his mother's side.

Cousin/Employee - Howlitz is the son of one of Kalas' father's sisters. Howlitz is a terrible hunter, and incapable of providing for his family on his own. Kalas, obliged to look after his kin, keeps Howlitz employed with menial labor on his ranch. The cousins have little in common, and Howlitz like most Plainsmen is uncomfortable in a setting as un-natural and controlled as a ranch, but Howlitz is greatful for the work and Kalas at the very least trusts his cousin.

Others
         Verran Goldwalls, a high ranking officer in the Imperial Military is one of Kalas' best friends and customers. Verran swears by the war animals raised and trained at Kalas' ranch, and credits several of his major victories in part to the quality of Kalas' product. Personally Verran and Kalas are very close. When Verran shows up at the ranch, the best of the livestock is always slaughtered for a feast. Verran would like the Empire to annex the lands on which Kalas' ranch stands so that he may send troops to protect it. Kalas is not yet entirely on board with this idea, but knows his friend means well.

       Helen Goldwalls, the fair daughter of the Imperial Verran Goldwalls. Although Kalas has never met Helen he has seen a portrait and sent her several messengers bearing his tidings. Kalas would like to marry Helen, as he likes the idea of having Verran as a Father in Law, and understands that the disconect between himself and his natiave culture is too great for him to have a healthy marriage with a Plainswoman. Helen is currently fielding several suitors back home in Terrapolis, so Kalas hopes that soon he can go pay a visit to her, or she to him.

        Hilks Eternalbones is the leader of the village nearest to Kalas' ranch. Hilks find Kalas and his way of life quite strange, but appreciates the fact the rancher brings in imperial traders to the village and employment for his people. In return Kalas benefits from the village's help trapping strong bucks and stallions to introduce to his champion bloodlines at the ranch. Hilks and Kalas have found common ground in drinking and gambling, and tend to enjoy each others company.

        Adella Ashes is a warlike cheiftess from Southern Jowt. Adella has earned the favor of several village leaders, and for years has been planning to raid the dwarven lands. Adella buys animals for her forces from Kalas, and hopes to build connections with the empire through him. Adella often sends Kalas gifts in hope of earning has favor. Kalas often drops her name when doing busniess with other village leaders.

        Julius Terrakon is an imperial rancher and chief supplier of mounts to the Imperial Forces. He views Kalas' growing wealth and popularity among the imperial officers as a threat to his business. Ironically it was Julius who helped Kalas' father Dunlap establish the ranch in the first place. At Dunlap's funeral Kalas got into a drunken brawl, and slashed Julius' cheek open with a broken bottle. Since then there has been no love lost between the two.

and one request, could you please expand a bit more on specialists? such as if there are different kinds of specialists etc.
