i somehow had the option to bring gremlins along, on embark, 1 point each.
curious, i brought a few
the first thing i notice, they eat meat, and only meat.. if i dont have meat available, they starve to death..
then they started having kids, soon to follow, were occational messages of:

"*name* stray gremlin baby has been found dead, dehydrated"
and
"*name* stray gremlin baby has died of thirst"

there seems to be a problem with this..

otherwise the first caravan just appeared on the map, and already the gremlins, all have all social skills in adequate, and competent hunter
this hunting skill seems to be used primarily for hunting my food storage...

They are a Evil creature, so if your civ has USE_EVIL_CREATURES or something like that, if they have access to gremlins they can sell them. They are senient, thus they work. If you find a way to get Gremlin sized crossbows, they will hunt. Put NOEAT on them if you dont want them to dehydrate.

Actually Gremlins aren't evil, but by default they are PET_EXOTIC.

They should also eat bones.

Also you probably lost a baby gremlin to thirst because the mothers didn't get them to drink. As intelligent creatures that are part of your fort require food and a classic (non-well) water source to drink.

yep, i removed pet_exotic because no matter how i tried i couldnt get the dungeon master noble, the wiki seems to lack up to date info on that, and the old info didn't help

anyway, there is a river here, and plenty of ponds, right outside my fort enterance,
not 10 tiles from the wagon where they hang out actually..
the adult gremlins take care of themselves, it's just looking like noone ever takes care of a gremlin baby

so far i have not seen them do any work, all they do is hang around the wagon talking to people.

it's a little creepy how their social skills seem to be going up MUCH faster then any dwarf..
i wonder if i can get one elected mayor.. with them having the highest social skills, it's not looking unlikely.(assuming it's possible at all)

What version are you playing ? Dungeon masters are gone, we now train animals differently. Go check the wiki on animal trainer.

i just updated to 34.07 a few hours ago..

and you are right, i seem to have missed the training system changes..

that's a thought for another post though, i'm still wondering why gremlins seem to abandon their babies.. so far i have four, all died of thirst shorty after being born..

You might want to build a couple of levers and see how your tame gremlins react to them. The wild ones have a tendency to pull random levers for fun. If tame one still think that's fun, it could result in ‼FUN‼. Better to find out before you have levers connected to anything important.
