oh my god i'm nekkid!
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:24:44 pm »

So i just updated to the new 34.07 and all my dwarves looked down, discovered that their clothing rotted away 5 years ago, and promptly tantrum spiraled.  I mass produced clothes and bought out the next caravan to arrive but the negative thoughts were already struck.  And so ends the epic 12 year expedition at Mirroredarches.  Their claim to fame being an asounding 6 artifact earings (and no artifact mechanisms).

I might just make a new embark right next to the old one.  layers of dolomite with deposits of magnetite and veins of coal is pretty great.  Anyone have a nifty embark i should use instead?

I'm about to start a fort on this world.
Here's a great site:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Has lots of shallow iron, marble down in the second cavern layer, loads of trees... and non-communicable husk clouds in the evil part. Savage all over, so be ready for lots of giant thrips. Generated in .06, still compatible of course.

Dwarves do get awfully upset about nudity. Come on. No sun usually, very well-insulated down there under many Urists of rock, hot magma forges to work with, sweaty oily militia practice...

It would make sense for most dwarves to get totally nekkid and stay that way, like naked mole rats. Unfortunately I don't think there's any way to mod dwarves to be less Puritanical about their naughty bits without making them not wear clothes period.

Going by the lore, shouldn't dwarves only care about socks?

What is the minimum dressing that a dwarf should have to not get mad?

Is a robe or a dress enough? I was hoping on mass producing a couple item that could be worn togheter and that can prevent embarassment alone (so any failure on one item doesn't innediately cause tantrum, as these things get built in batch and fail at the same time)

Shirt+Pants+Shoes.

I think coveralls don't work, unfortunately.

Just ask for max imports on cheap leather from your civ, you can buy them out with a stack or two of masterwork bolts, which is about 500 pieces. If you have a high leatherworker, you'll not only be clothed quickly but I'm not sure if dwarves get happy thoughts from good clothing. If they do it's even better!

Dwarves are upset about nudity + dwarves only care about socks + dwarves often only wear one sock =  :o

Actually, I think I read that modding dwarves to not use clothes will still make them irritated at not wearing them.  Haven't tried it myself.

The severity of bad thoughts about clothing is way too high, if there was a way to easily judge how many shoes you needeed to make without looking at the inventory or thoughts of 200+ dwarves i wouldn't mind so much - i tend to just over=produce now and save every scrap of worthwhile goblinite clothing as well, the bookeeper should take note of how many dwarves need clothes & shoes (based on accuracy). Also clothes wear out pretty fast, anyone have any number s on how long clothes take to wear out?

Well if I was a dwarf, in the cold underground, working with engraving walls or making crafts with a chisel, my half-frozen phallus unprotected. I'd be pretty F**king pissed if I was him.

Agreed.  I think the negative thoughts for lack of pants at least should be quite severe.  Lack of shoes should be bad too, but a lack of a shirt should probably not send an otherwise ecstatic dwarf off the deep end.  For the dwarven ladies that might should be a bit more of a problem... but that's getting a bit more complicated.
