Also, calling people idiots OOC is kind of harsh.))

You've got to be kidding me.

Take to the skies, dodging with 3 axis of movement as opposed to the ground's 2.

((We've even got ammunition (and possible construction material) for any kind of hypervelocity cannon we come up with in the form of the FeSea.))

Hearing the yells and screams of terror, break into a run pn a fiagonal through the zone, away from the crystal- better safe than sorry. Don't go deeper into the zone if I start hearing the weird noises/sounds/voices, or if they affect me some other way.

"Ok, just what did you guys do this time?!"

run even faster, try to avoid unexplored and dangerous areas.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

RUN attempting to go through gaps in its firing arc
((Cue the thing spinning like a top.

About this time we could have used a squad of well-armed people with projectile weaponry that could shoot the lasery crystacles off with coordinated fire, that weren't currently in the process of running away. ;) ))

Anton turns to look in the direction that could give him a good look at the chaos happening off in the distance, if it weren't for the intervening walls.

"All hell's breaking loose there. Or at least it sure sounds like it."

He turns back to the restrained man. "Morul Mighty-Cashew, or however that goes, I presume? I must say I am very displeased with your methods, and your wrecking of the shuttle that I, among others, will now have to repair, but whether I like it or not, you represent both a valuable asset to said repair-" Anton pauses to see Morul's reaction, "- and also a human being, whom I cannot in good conscience leave in rather possible danger in this situation. So right now I will cut you free, and escort you to the relative safety of the AI bunker, where we will probably have to stay until either this blows over or the base blows up. I would advise you to refrain from escape attempts, and to remember that this shock glove here still lacks a "stun" setting."

Red Hand safety off. Make sure Morul has no access to weapons, including mine (unload the Gauss Rifle), then free him of restraints and proceed, with him ahead and at glove-point, to the AI Core in an orderly, but expedite fashion. Assuming nothing bad or stupid happens on the way there ((not likely in the HMRC, I know)), dial the amps down on the Red Hand to make it as nominally nonlethal as a combat laser coupled with a cattle prod can be.

((From what I can tell, that thing is like a living battery/reactor. So heating it up would only give it more energy and make whatever reaction it uses to provide energy to itself happen faster, unless you could somehow cause it to reach its maximum capacity. Cooling it is a much better idea, since by cooling it you are depriving it of energy. And causing it to shoot is kind of good for us too if you're trying to look on the bright side of things, since it causes it to waste energy.

And noticed something else? When I took that goo, it understood where I was (probably because I touched the goo) and targeted me directly. When Corsair did his thing, it did the equivalent of thrashing around madly and blindly, like an animal that has been shot while in its nest. That tells us that this alien can't tell from where manipulator attacks are coming from, much like a human.))

((I completely agree. From now on, those who anger eldritch alien horrors can deal with it themselves. Mind coming over then and give mr. crystal a hug?

Oh, and @ kisame: I know you didn't meant the players when you said idiots, but remember that in ooc you're addressing the players behind the characters.

Also, and this is in general, we are dealing with the kind of situation to which there is no obvious 'correct' approach, not without hindsight of course. In fact, there are several ways one could handle this, and they can all end in disaster.

1: don't do anything. Cue it stomping over us/doing whatever it was doing just now, and everybody going 'what, you didn't think the giant alien crystalmonster was going to destroy something? Pssh, typical rookie mistake.'
2: try to kill it/stop it. Cue the thing being angered and destroying us/the base in its rage/self defence. crowd reaction: 'oh, the HMRC just had to draw first blood, aggroing the whole universe again. Pssh, typical rookie mistake.'
3: Do neither, but keep tracking it to shoot it once it seems to be doing something dangerous. Cue us not being able to stop it in time, or someone doing something rash (like using a manipulator) out of boredom or whatever reason. Description on our tombstone: 'They couldn't decide on what to do, and their indecisiveness and bickering got them all killed. Pssh, typical rookie mistake.))

((Hey, I just tried to take a sample. That's not any different from what you guys did with anything you encountered. Also, that'd be the equivalent of killing the said idiots, not just letting them kill themselves.

Option 4: Send out a small group to track it and inform us of it's movements. Should stay inconspicuous and not shoot in any case.
ALSO, make sure we have a backup plan in case our base gets destroyed. Meaning, keeping stockpiles of food and provisions in different key points on the map, least likely to be affected by anything. PLUS, don't have all your vehicles in the garage, at least half should be in the said key points.
IN ADDITION, establish a "danger radius" around the giant crystal thing. To err on the side of caution, let's put a benchmark of two big hexes. Everyone but the people following the giant crystal thing, and the people in the base (make sure to keep less than half the people in the base at all times) should stay in the safe, outside of the danger radius.
ONCE, the giant crystal thing moves out to getcha, THEN disperse even more and try not to attract it's attention.
IF, it actively hunts humans, use drones to monitor it's progress and avoid it better, and theorize on how to continue avoiding it or how to kill it.
'they made it way too hard to remember what to do and what the plan was.'
Pssh, typical rookie mistake.'
