"I won't touch it. But I've been thinking about why we were here.

Steve needs information for whatever war is going on and we're busy exploring a decrepit research lab. Obviously, the elevator shaft is lined with gravity stabilizers or better yet, magnetic stabilizers to ensure emergency passage for all personnel. That explains Mesk's situation.

And what we have so far is a bundle of porn, vague references to this Puddle, pseudo-life experiments with little details as to what is actually happening, porn, mathematical allegories and statistical data, sensual tension between staff and their disciplinary doctrine, porn and this metallic ring thingy.

Say, this looks like a door to think of it. A circular door. The main computer has a panel on the right-...there."

((Feyri seems awfully attentive to the porn part.))

"You think it's a portal of some kind?"

Bishop turned from what he was doing and looked at Feyri for a moment and then at the machine, then back to Feyri.

"Well... I suppose it's possible, I wouldn't know about physics and how they work, and same goes for this puddle thing. What I do know is this: Something bad happened down here, something that drove the staff over the edge and eventually forced the place to be sealed off and vacuumed, which means shit went downhill pretty damn fast.

I personally would not like to die on this rock, and seeing how you, me and Jim are the only real people here that can look after themselves properly, then I would really prefer that we don't go messing with this puddle thing. It just feels wrong. The sooner we are outta here, the better in my opinion."

(This statement might be really ironic based on my roll, considering what Jim is currently doing at the time Bishop is saying this. :)))

((I'm curious to see if Jim overshoots horribly and summons the shining lance of heat he used to kill Erik to destroy all of his head and maybe part of his shoulders and torax.))

(Considering I'm only trying to melt a small area, am not attempting to use it on a charging enemy, and am in fact in relatively calm conditions, I doubt that would happen. :-\)

"Um, about that portal. Heh, it's just me and circular figures. Me and my memories, you get it. Anyway, you think we should at least restore the power? With the gravity as such, as you can see by our viewpoint, this planet has some dense core.

And we won't die. Don't you worry there. As long as I breathe, I'll make sure none of you die. I swear it by my code as a mercenary. Well, a freelance unpaid mercenary, that is."
She turned to check the hulking mass of machinery. "Whatever this may be, I just hope it is salvageable."

(She isn't very good with medical knowledge, no. :P She might not realize he's being sarcastic...)
((I really didn't at first, but hey. The arm did give a high-five.  :P))

Feyri was unnerved at the whole mass message transmission that Steve sent, probably to Mesk. "I'll...stay by the device thing. You could check the door."

Look for where I saw that control panel on that huge ring/set of mechanical arms thing again and move closer to it, examining it.
You saw a control panel by the door, not the machine, but you know there's one up on the scaffolding because Jim saw it.

You climb the scaffolding up to the control panel and take a look at it. [Aux:1] You bend down to take a look at the console and end up putting your palm straight down on several buttons. The display screen on the console shows "Powering up". The air at the center of the ring begins to distort violently, building and collapsing, shimmering with great heat and darkening as though burning a hole through space. The distortion congeals and hardens into a single black disk a few inches long.

In what he felt was probably a damn stupid move, Jim decided to just try to melt the point of connection so he could pull the damn thing off with his amp.
[exotic:6+1+1]
You activate your amp and concentrate on burning a thin path through the insta-steel that mesk used to GLUE YOUR OWN SEVERED FUCKING ARM TO YOUR FUCKING HEAD GOD DAMN IT, GOD DAMN IT, GOD DAMN...oh wait, probably not a good idea to be freaking out while doing this. You regain your composure and reach up to see if the arm is still on your head. It is not. Yay! And you also completely melted your head right off your shoulders. Less yay!

"Right. Don't touch it by the way, we don't know what it does."

Inspect that door closely as well as any nearby pannels that might open it. Check the progress meter on the HDDSM.
You walk across the room as feyri mounts the scaffolding and take a look at the door. Its a big metal thing, clearly designed to survive brute force. There's a control panel set into the wall near the door.

You check your wrist pad; the progress bar reads 58%.

(I kind of thought that was going to happen, too. Luckily I have other cameras on the body.)

Jim sighed. Well, he lost his emoticon, big deal. He'd just get his head replaced when he got back. The same with his arm. "Status update: my head is missing, as is most of my right arm. Well, technically they're not missing. They're just molten metal on the ground. I'll just wait for further orders, shall I?"

Bishop nodded at the panel, as that would probably open the door. Turning to check on Feyri, he was shocked at what was happening. This shock devolved into anger shortly afterwards with an uncomfortable touch of fear.

"I TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH IT! WHAT DID YOU DO?!"

Running around the edge of the room, he got that sinking feeling again...

Run around the edge of the room to avoid the machine and then head to the control panel and see where the power switch for this thing is! Shut this damn thing down!

'Uh, uh. The buttons. They were so shiny!'

Pressure, pressure. That wasn't what she would say.

'I accidentally that button!'

Crap. No. Stop it thoughts!

Feyri's arms just slumped to her side as she moved down from the mechanism. "I-I..examined it! It was slippery! and..and."

D:

She tried her best to put on a neutral expression, but knew deep inside that what she did...was totally stupid.

"Get back!"

Find a safe place, switch to laser rifle, begin looking for hostiles. Not Bishop.

Defend!
