dead robot parts connot be dissambled, even if you stop them from getting buried with the rest of the robot.

Also, i cannot get my military crossbowmen to pick up bolts

Bodyless:
1) Do they come from someone's pet, not just a stray robot?
2) Did you assign the bolts through the ammo menu and did you make them quivers? They work fine for me.

Okay, Bodyless. I just ran the test and they DO pick up the bolts.

But I had one case when they didn't. It's when my first crafted 100 bolts were assigned to hunters (it's set this way up by default). Go into (m)ilitary->(f)ammunition, and remove bolts from hunters. Check if it fixes that.

The robots are stray, but they always come with unique names, even if i buy them from traders.
also, about bolts: i already tried that, they will only pick up single bolts. but i also have some large stacks (more than 25 bolts) from immigrant hunters. looks like these may be to big to be carried.

No, you just did some errors in your ammo settings. My crossbowmen carry stacks of 25 and 50 easily.

There's a special wiki page on how to work with ammo. It's a bit confusing but not too hard.

well, they did pick up my produced iron bolts (25) stacks. so please give me an link to that wiki page as i cannot find anyhting on dwarffortresswiki.org

I just embark with 15+ quivers, saves time. (4000pt worlds I roll).

that medical crates give you pouches/bags-for-seeds. OH AND military crates giving quivers since they're required for shooting.

Edit: a hive looks like a stack of logs, change?

Edit2: [ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_CROSSBOW_WAR] how does one make it? (attack bayonet)
Also, looks like need 100+ wooden bolt hits on a brahmin to kill it. Needs bit more penetration.

It says about shift-C and shift-T.

Wooden bolts are really bad unless you hit eyes/brain, it's supposed to be so. You shouldn't be able to kill a big two-headed cow with a couple pointy sticks. The bolts are balanced not to penetrate armor.

I mean, look at italian bull sports. They stick large IRON spikes in a bull, and he runs like nothing, just angry. What would happen if those were wooden spikes? Nothing.

i dont see how that should help me, i had one squad with 250 assigned bolts for both combat and training and hunters had no ammo.

Anyway, is it a vanilla bug when i can get my soldiers to use a weapon AND 2 shields? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9153113/twoshields.png

(I accidently added 2 shields to the uniform)

Yep, I am late at home after concert after some wine and cognac, so I may say stupid things :)


Bodyless, where are the bolts which are NOT assigned? They should be in SOME list, check it.

Guys, send me your saves where this happens. I will tell you what are you doing wrong :).
Make sure that you have quivers AND you assign those exact bullets to your gunners. Go into ammunition screen and see which bullets are assigned.
