Today, in Dutch main 8 o'clock news:

Somebody put a fake WWII naval mine into some canal in a city in the north of our country.
After seeing a photo of it, explosive experts thought it was real. A few hours, lots of police, fire-fighters, bomb squad, evacuation of the housing blocks around it later, they found it to be a fake. Someone pulled off a very expensive April's Fools joke.
Police is now trying to find out who did it. They intend to make him pay the costs of all rescources used. Expensive joke. He/she can expect a few million euro claim, if caught. IMO, they shouldn't. They should man up and admit they've been fooled on April 1st.
Respect for succesfully fooling all government services like that.

Compromise and let them pay it off in community service.  The alternative is for a real mine to be called a joke and people get blown up.

The people who were evacuated might want to sue the prankers for disrupting their lives though.

That's glorious.

Though, I tend to loathe this day, because everyone and their mother does something stupid and disruptive.

I've got three sites that rotated their display 180 degrees, and a few others that are similarly useless.

I'm all for good fun, but this stuff is more annoying than amusing.

At least Adult Swim decided to play something good, and ran toonami, including new spots with Steve Blum as Tom...

They actually believed me. I hadn't even started doing the turn yet. ;D

I seemed to avoid most April Fools stuff, it seems, by dint of my sleeping/waking hours.  One mapping resource I used, in the very early hours, had me looking at skymaps instead of the Earthly ones, and there was something on the radio, early in the morning, that I though was just-credible-enough-to-be-true but had the hallmarks of a good AF prank[1], but then the item immediately after that (which I now forget any details of) also seemed to be like that, and I never had the chance to hear any 'reveals', so maybe my brain was just primed to think that actually real things might not be.

[1] About the problem of 'temporary theft' of donkeys from farmers/sanctuaries, just before Easter (to be as-sneakily returned, afterwards) due to churches' demands.  And also that because the bible has some lee-way in its wording and thus any 'beast of burden' should do, there are llama farms doing good business supplying the same demands by more forward-thinking congregations.

Heh, cool. I hadn't watched the news so I didn't notice.
