Cross-mode question.
« on: April 01, 2012, 03:25:45 am »

So this is a question about dwarf fortress mode, that relates to adventure mode, that has a gameplay question feel to it.

I want to prepare a fort for adventure mode that I'm currently playing in dwarf fortress mode. I've only ever visited forts that have been sacked by goblins/clowns/escaped !!SCIENCE!!. These have all had everything that was ever in the fort scattered all over the place. Can this be avoided? Is there a trick to leaving a fort intact for future generations to discover?

dfhack => "lair"

makes it a lair like for night creatures, items don't scatter and since night creatures don't settle anywhere after world gen, quite safe. Alternatively, use lead, gold and platinum bins and barrels, they don't get scattered very far.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

I'd like to add a cross-mode question of my own.

Imagine that you have a mature fort that currently contains some nasty, highly infectious forgotten beast extract.  If it gets on a dwarf (or cat or dog or...), well... think Extreme Swelling, Advanced Rot, and very busy surgeons.  Would this stuff stick around on a reclaim?  How about in adventure mode?

How about if the extract is on a weapon that the adventurer finds?

Well, if it gets onto your adventurer, it's going to have the same effect. BUT i seem to recall that upon reclaim, thigns like blood and mud vanish.
