Halp - Spore, DRM and lost CD-keys
« on: April 01, 2012, 12:52:14 am »

So my room mate felt like playing through Spore which I enjoy watching while drinking. However we found out that we've managed to lose the Spore CD-key.
Apparently EA is too awesome to have both an easy to acess site and support. While most companies like the true Bioware would just have your cd-keys listed on your account, EA has managed to improve this method by not fucking bothering with it at all.

So what I'm asking if I somehow missed a page of EA that listed cd-keys from your account. I've looked into other "methods" of trying to recover the cd-key but they all deal with having old temporary data left over and this is a fresh install.

The other option we're looking at is just buying a whole new Spore cd-key, but prices are pretty high because EA hates Oceania. Anyone know a decent legit cheap Spore key?

Another example of a paying customer being fucked over by pointless DRM and shitty website/account managers.

i'd say you have 2 good options:

1: don't play spore, it sucks.

2: just pirate it, you did buy it so your conscience is clear.

I'm well aware that it sucks but it makes for a good drinking game which is always welcomed.
As for the whole pirating thing it sorta defeats the purpose. The Maxis creations are all pretty lame and limited and it's always fun to get killed by someone else's lovely crafted penis.

You've got a point. My Vortigaunts got murdered by an Epic Strider in the creature stage.

I buy a lot of my personal cd keys through CJS and have not had a problem.

The price for Spore is £10.61 or $15.75 AUD right now and it works on Origin/EA.

If you buy another CD key you realise you're directly supporting "pointless DRM and shitty website/account managers."

So after events that I could fill a hate blog with, we managed to find the orginal Spore at a decent price and was able to install it.
The end results were meh all around but I suppose it was a decent night. Hopefully now that the cd-key is stored online we'll be able to install and play the game without trying to find a small slip of paper.

No I didn't realise that. It was my first choice and one which I took without hesitation. I'm awefully glad that EA got more of my money and I don't feel like a disgruntled peon at all.

So, I'm having this problem right now. But, it turns out that you can call 866 543 5435 in the USA, and they can access your Spore account for your key that you signed up with, as it's one key per account, and vice versa. But it's 11:12 right now, so I'll have to call them in the morning ;A;

Wow this is quite an old thread, but I remember it well.
If anyone was curious there wasn't anything we could do about it and ended up just getting a copy extremely cheap off Amazon. It however served our drunken rabblerousing well. Disappointing the problem couldn't be resolved however.

This is unfortunately unavailable to anyone outside of the U.S. and I couldn't find such a service for my own region.

I've actually been playing the crack for the past few months, came across this thread via google (along with many others (but what a surprise that I had an account here! (Damn you Orangebottle for not telling me about the Christmas giveaway!))), and found the solution in another forum. Decided to post the metafix here.

I've actually been playing the crack for the past few months,
If this weren't EA we were talking about, I'd yell at you for that.

Also, when I had this problem, I contacted EA's support staff.

EA support gave me like three free keys so I could play Spore, because the first two didn't work.

i'd say you have 2 good options:

1: don't play spore, it sucks.
Ignoring the hype, it's a decent game. No, it's nowhere near what EA promised us, but it's still a game that I had loads of fun with.

I could PM you my spore CD key, and we could see if it works.
That being said, that will probably be tonight, as I am about to head to school.

Blah seeing this thread makes me sad, Spore had so much potential, and instead it ended up being Spore. I was so looking forward to it at the time.
